Hey mamas πŸ’™

Can we talk about what happens AFTER the baby arrives? Because the first few months can feel like everyone's focused on the baby (as they should be!) while your body quietly holds on to all the things it went through.

Upper back aching from feeds and carries. A pelvis that still doesn't feel quite like yours. Core that seems to have forgotten how to switch on. Hips that click when you finally get a moment to move.

This is the fourth trimester, and it's really common to push through it thinking it'll just resolve on its own. Sometimes it does. But sometimes those patterns stick around longer than they should, and then you're trying to get back into exercise wondering why things feel so off.

Returning to movement after birth is something Amanda sees every week in the clinic. Whether you had a straightforward birth or a more complex one, your body deserves a proper check-in before you go back to high-impact activity.

If you're a few weeks, months, or even a year postpartum and something still feels unsettled, you're not being dramatic. Come in and let's have a look. πŸ’™

πŸ‰ Footy season is well and truly here, and with the Autumn weather making outdoor training irresistible, the clinic has been seeing a wave of soft tissue injuries.

The pattern is always the same: a quieter summer, then a sharp jump in load when the season kicks off. Hamstrings, calves, Achilles tendons, and shoulders bear the brunt of it.

A few things worth knowing if you're playing or training right now:

Your tendons need more time to adapt than your muscles do. That stiffness you feel in the morning that "warms up" after 10-15 minutes? That's a tendon telling you to ease up on the load, not push through it.

Gradual load progression matters more than any warm-up routine. Increasing your training volume by more than 10% week on week is one of the most reliable ways to get injured.

Hands-on treatment works best when it sits alongside exercise rehab, not instead of it. If something's been niggling for a few weeks and you've been hoping it'll sort itself out, it probably won't without a bit of help.

We're back open tomorrow (Tuesday 7 April) after the long weekend. If you've got something you want assessed before the season builds up further, give us a call or book online. πŸ’™

Happy Easter from the team at Chiropractic Moves! 🐣

We're taking a short break over the long weekend and will be back open on Tuesday, April 7, which also happens to be World Health Day. 🌍

It's a good reminder that health isn't just something you chase when things go wrong. The small, consistent habits matter more than the big fixes: staying active during the school holidays, keeping up your water intake as the weather cools, and actually resting when your body asks for it.

If you've been putting off that niggling back, neck or shoulder issue, the Easter break is a great time to decide you're not carrying it into Term 2.

Book online or give us a call from Tuesday.

Hey mamas πŸ‘‹

The Easter long weekend is almost here, and for a lot of families that means school holidays start Thursday too. If you're juggling the end of Term 1 chaos right now, we see you!

Here's a gentle reminder: school holidays are actually one of the best times to book yourself in. The mornings are a little slower, the routine loosens up, and there might actually be a window to do something for yourself.

We see so many mums who've been carrying niggles for weeks (or months) and just haven't had a chance to deal with them. Tight upper back from feeding or carrying. That low back heaviness that's just... always there. Hips that feel off since your last pregnancy.

None of that is something you just have to live with. πŸ’™

Amanda is in clinic Tuesday through Friday and has morning and afternoon appointments available. We're closed Good Friday (3 April) and Easter Monday (6 April) for the long weekend, but back as normal from Tuesday 7 April.

😴 World Sleep Day is this Saturday (14 March) β€” and I want to talk about something we see regularly in the clinic: morning headaches and jaw stiffness that have nothing to do with your pillow.

If you're waking up with a dull ache across your temples, a jaw that feels tight or clicks when you open it, or a stiff neck that takes an hour to settle... you might be grinding or clenching while you sleep without even realising it.

The jaw and neck work as a unit. When one is under constant load β€” whether from teeth grinding, stress, or poor head posture β€” the other tends to feel it too. It's a pattern we see a lot, and the good news is it responds well to the right kind of assessment and care.

What I look at in the clinic is how jaw movement, cervical spine control, and head posture interact. Treating just one part of that picture often misses the bigger story.

If mornings have been rough lately, it might be worth a look. πŸ‘‡

Hey mamas πŸ‘‹

Can you believe Term 1 is back already? Between the lunchboxes, drop-offs, and the mental load of getting everyone out the door on time... it's a lot.

And your body knows it too.

This time of year we see a lot of mums come in carrying their stress *literally* β€” tight shoulders, a stiff lower back that doesn't quite ease up, that tension headache that's been lingering since week one of school. It's so common, and it makes sense. Sleep debt, carrying little ones, breastfeeding posture, a core that's still recovering β€” it all adds up, especially when life suddenly shifts back into full gear.

You don't have to just push through it. Sometimes a single session is enough to reset your body, and a few simple adjustments to your daily routine can make a real difference.

With International Women's Day on Sunday, it feels like a good moment to say: taking care of yourself isn't a luxury β€” it's how you show up for everyone else. πŸ’™

We're open Monday–Friday and Saturday mornings 8–1pm, which works for a lot of mums who can't make it during the week.

10 Myths of Back Pain in Older Adults

A new paper in Chiropractic & Manual Therapies busts 10 common myths about back pain in older adults.

Here are the highlights:

❌ Back pain is inevitable with ageing β†’ βœ… It actually peaks before 60, then declines
❌ It usually means serious disease β†’ βœ… Less than 5% of cases are serious
❌ You need imaging after 50 β†’ βœ… No red flags = no scan needed
❌ Avoid bending, lifting & twisting β†’ βœ… Activity promotes recovery
❌ Bed rest helps β†’ βœ… It prolongs recovery and raises risk
❌ Medication should be first-line β†’ βœ… Guidelines recommend non-drug care first
❌ Surgery works for back pain β†’ βœ… Not supported by evidence
❌ Chronic pain = structural damage β†’ βœ… Imaging correlates poorly with pain
❌ Injections & nerve blocks are effective β†’ βœ… No better than sham for LBP
❌ Disc herniations cause leg pain in elderly β†’ βœ… Less common in older adults

I think this is worth a read... misinformation can lead to unnecessary fear, overtreatment and poorer outcomes for our older patients.

Kids back at school + parents back at their desks = necks and shoulders reminding everyone they exist πŸ˜…

If you've spent the holidays being active and suddenly gone back to sitting for 8 hours, your body notices the switch pretty quickly. A few things that help:

🩹 Move every 30 mins β€” even just standing up and sitting back down
🧊 If your neck's cranky, a wrapped ice pack for 10 mins can settle things down
πŸ™† Chin tucks at your desk (Google it β€” you'll look silly but your neck will thank you)

And if things aren't settling, come see us. We're at 21 Agars St, Paddington β€” easy parking right out front.

We have a single room to rent in our Chiropractic Practice in the Rosalie Village precinct of Paddington. The room is ~ 3.3m * 2.9m, and would be perfectly suitable for a massage therapist, physio, acupuncturist, podiatrist or similar. We have a desk and treatment table in the room currently, which could stay or go as you like. We have a clinical focus on mums and bub's, as well as Chiro for athletes, sports persons and injury rehab. Aligned practitioners could do VERY well here, but we're really happy to hear from anyone Allied health or otherwise. You would have your own key and 24/7 access. We have a very pretty reception area, with a receptionist at the desk most days, and are happy to include reception services by arrangement. We have a toilet/laundry in the office if you need a washer/dryer for towels and linen for your clients, with a little co ordination with everyone else πŸ™‚ The area has good foot traffic, there are many other small businesses around us, and lots of food and coffee options if you like to meet clients out of office as well. We have onsite parking that could also be included by arrangement.
