In Continued Celebration of Aged Care Week we want to talk about Assistive Technology and how that helps our older Australians - practical equipment solutions that help reduce falls, improve mobility, and make everyday activities easier and safer.

We work with Home Care Packages, CHSP programs, and private referrals to assess, recommend, and arrange the right equipment at the right time, keeping older adults confident and capable in their own homes.

What We Help With
Our experienced occupational therapists can support with:
In-home functional assessments
Recommendations tailored to individual needs, goals & home environments
Product trials (where appropriate)
Equipment prescription, supplier coordination & training
Supporting documentation for package or CHSP funding approval

Common AT We Prescribe
Over-toilet aids and shower chairs
Bed sticks, mobility aids, and walking frames
Recliners, pressure cushions and adjustable beds
Kitchen aids for arthritis or hand weakness

It’s Aged Care Week in Australia — a time to pause and recognise the incredible people, partnerships, and purpose that sit at the heart of aged care support across the country.

In the evolving landscape of community occupational therapy, the demand for high-quality services has never been greater.

With an ageing population that requires skilled, thoughtful, and experienced care, the industry faces a critical challenge: the rise of providers who prioritize cost-cutting over quality, relying on inexperienced or even worse, “NDIS-burnt out” staff, to deliver services.

While this may reduce expenses in the short term, the long-term ramifications for clients, families, and the healthcare system are significant and concerning.

What’s the big deal? Aren’t all OT’s the same?

Occupational therapy plays a crucial role in supporting older adults to maintain independence, manage chronic conditions, and enhance their quality of life. However, when providers engage clinicians with minimal experience or inadequate supervision, the consequences can be serious, including:

Mismanagement of complex cases
Increased risk of injury
Erosion of trust in allied health services
Short-term savings, long-term costs

So when the problems seem too great, and the solutions too few…what can you actually do?

Demand higher standards - OT service providers should be transparent about who their staff are and how they are qualified and experienced to assist.

Support ethical providers - Choosing an OT provider that values clinical excellence over cost-cutting is crucial.
