Corns and warts are often misdiagnosed due to their similarities in appearance, however they are two completely different conditions

So what are corn and warts?

Corns are formed by a area of condensed hard skin, this is a direct result from an increase in pressure/load at a specific region, often occurring on weight bearing surfaces.

On the other hand warts are a result of the human papillomavirus (HPV) and can occur anywhere on the body, being commonly found on the plantar surface of the feet.

Handy tips:
-Corns are usually isolated and elicit a pain response with direct pressure.
-Warts have a cauliflower appearance and can often multiply, eliciting pain through lateral squeezing.

We were excited to sponsor Coogee Tri Club's most recent triathlon.

The big smiles of beginners and experienced triathletes crossing the finish line and the camaraderie within the club was great to witness.

Looking forward to seeing lots more from the Coogee Tri Club athletes 👣🏊‍♀️🚵🏃🏻‍♀️

Morton’s neuromas involve thickening of digital nerves which lead to your toes, often occurring between the 3rd and 4th digits.

Symptoms vary from sharp pain to burning to tingling of the forefoot often exacerbated with narrow footwear and high heels.

Conservative treatment involves wider footwear, metatarsal padding, shockwave therapy and dry needling, whereby more invasive treatment involves cortisone injections and surgery

Podiatrist hack - A positive “Mulder’s Click” can indicate a Morton’s neuroma by squeezing your forefoot and hearing/feeling a click.

We we're thrilled to be providing foot health advice to Qantas's cabin crew and ground staff in their health and safety week.

This advice included a lot of footwear education due to the long hours they spend on their feet and tight uniform policy. It's can be hard finding the right work shoe but we love helping out 🥿👞

At HK Pod we believe that knowledge is power. We take pride in educating our patients to better understand their foot health, and we also take pride in educating ourselves about things we want to know more about.

In order to be better practitioners to our First Nations patients, we undertook Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training. It was an indepth, open discussion with a focus on the difference between western and Indigenous health practices, why a one-stop approach doesn’t work, and a conversation about some of the many reasons there is such a huge gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous health outcomes. It was a positive, thought provoking session, and we thank Nathan for his positive insight into being a more inclusive community 🖤💛❤️

Ankle sprains are one of the most common sporting injuries accounting for 40% of all ankle injuries, where 45% of individuals playing basketball, soccer, football and netball report spraining their ankle.

How do you manage an ankle sprain?

1/ R.I.C.E.R (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation and Referral).

2/ Ankle mobility, drawing the alphabet with your foot, non weight bearing "ABC’s".

3/ Ankle/calf muscle stretching to improve mobility.

4/ Double leg heel raises to increase strength.

5/ Strapping/bracing when returning to sporting activities to prevent recurrence.

6/ Orthotic therapy to increase ankle/foot stability.

Once returning to sport 12% to 47% of all ankle sprains report having a recurrence. So make sure you come in and see the friendly team at HK Podiatry to prevent this. 🦶

With warmer days fast approaching, it is important to protect your feet from becoming dry and cracked as we transition into summer footwear 🩴

A great way to prevent this is by applying a moisturiser to your feet daily.

Walkers foot lotion contains 15% urea which plays a vital role in maintaining the skin’s moisture balance to keep your feet well hydrated throughout the summer months.
