Heart disease and stroke

Kidney damage (diabetic nephropathy)

Nerve damage (neuropathy)

Eye damage (retinopathy, leading to blindness)

Here are calm, practical ways to cope with anxiety — simple strategies you can use anytime you feel overwhelmed:

🌬️ 1. Breathe Deeply

Slow breathing tells your nervous system to relax.
Try the 4–4–6 method:

Inhale for 4 seconds

Hold for 4 seconds

Exhale for 6 seconds

Repeat 3–5 times.

🧠 2. Ground Yourself

Use the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique:

5 things you can see

4 things you can touch

3 things you can hear

2 things you can smell

1 thing you can taste

This helps bring you back into the present moment.

🏃‍♀️ 3. Move Your Body

Gentle movement reduces anxiety quickly:

Walk

Stretch

Dance

Do light exercise

Movement releases tension and boosts calming hormones.

✍️ 4. Write It Out

Journaling helps you release what’s building up inside.
Ask yourself:

“What am I feeling?”

“What’s in my control right now?”

Even a few sentences can help.

🧊 5. Use the Cold Trick

Splash cold water on your face or hold something cold.
This activates the “dive reflex,” slowing your heart rate.

🧘‍♀️ 6. Relax Your Body

Try:

Progressive muscle relaxation

Gentle yoga

Meditation or mindfulness

Even 2–3 minutes helps.

🤝 7. Reach Out

Talk to someone you trust — a friend, family member, or support person.
You don’t need to go through anxiety alone.

💚 8. Practice Self-Compassion

Tell yourself:

“I am safe.”

“This feeling will pass.”

“I’m doing my best.”

Be kind to yourself — anxiety is not weakness.

🛌 9. Improve Daily Habits

Small lifestyle changes reduce anxiety long-term:

Stay hydrated

Limit caffeine

Get enough rest

Keep a simple routine

❤️‍🩹 CPR: Step-by-Step Guide
🧍‍♂️ 1. Check for Safety

Make sure the area is safe for you and the person.

👋 2. Check for Responsiveness

Tap their shoulders and shout: “Are you okay?”

📞 3. Call Emergency Services

If they don’t respond, call your local emergency number immediately.
If others are around, point to someone and say:
“You, call for help and bring an AED!”

🫁 4. Check Breathing

Look, listen, and feel for normal breathing for no more than 10 seconds.
If they’re not breathing or only gasping — start CPR immediately.

💗 Chest Compressions
How to do it:

Place your hands in the centre of the chest.

Interlock your fingers.

Keep your arms straight, shoulders over your hands.

Push hard and fast at 100–120 compressions per minute.

Press down about 5 cm deep.

Allow the chest to fully rise after each push.

🫁 Rescue Breaths (If trained)

After 30 compressions, give 2 breaths:

Tilt the head back, lift the chin.

Pinch the nose shut.

Seal your mouth over theirs.

Blow until the chest rises.

Continue 30 compressions + 2 breaths.

If you are not trained, give hands-only CPR (continuous compressions).

⚡ Using an AED

Turn the device on.

Place the pads as shown on the diagrams.

Follow the voice instructions.

Stay clear when the AED says: “Deliver shock.”

Continue CPR immediately after the shock.

⛑️ Stop CPR Only If:

The person starts breathing.

Emergency services take over.

You are too exhausted to continue.

The scene becomes unsafe.
