Yoga Lingo: Asteya ✨
Yoga is more than movement — it’s a language of connection. Today, we’re exploring Asteya.
Often translated as non-stealing, Asteya carries a much softer (and very relevant) message — especially at this time of year. It invites us to stop taking what isn’t truly ours: time we don’t have, energy we can’t spare, or commitments made from obligation rather than desire.
In a busy season, Asteya becomes a practice of respect — for our limits and the natural rhythms of the body.
When we overextend, we steal from tomorrow’s vitality. When we say yes too quickly, we borrow from rest, creativity, and presence. Practising Asteya means choosing honesty over hustle, and sufficiency over excess.
On the mat, it may look like honouring your edge instead of pushing into someone else’s range. In daily life, it might mean leaving before depletion sets in, protecting your mornings, or creating space between plans.
Asteya reminds us that summer is meant to be enjoyed, not endured. When we stop over-taking, we make room for pleasure, clarity, and genuine connection.
Reflect: Where might you be borrowing from your future self — and how can you give something back today? 🤍
