You know that feeling when you finally clean your glasses and suddenly the world is in HD? 🎥✨
Like… wow. Who knew your house had that many crumbs on the floor?

Here's the truth about the most common cleaning methods:
👕 The shirt wipe or grab a tissue method = instant scratches.
😮‍💨 The breath-and-sleeve combo = just smears it around.
🧽 The kitchen sponge = please, no.

The secret recipe for true 4K vision?
✔️ Microfibre cloth
✔️ A little lens spray
✔️ 10 seconds of your life well spent

Clear lenses, clear mind, and fewer “why is the world so foggy?” moments.
HD life: unlocked. 🔓👓

All L&F Eyecare customers get free tightening and cleaning for life, so if your glasses need a little lenicure (see what we did there 🥁) pop in and see our friendly Optical Assistants, who will happily give your frames the A+ treatment 🌟 💅🏼

Dr Lanka Wickramaarachchi celebrates 6 years with L&F Eyecare this year 💐

Lanka began with L&F back in 2019 and is a popular optometrist on our team!

"Optometry is a joy because it combines my interest in health sciences and passion for helping people. I love getting to know patients and the interesting eye conditions that come in with them. It is a privilege to help provide patient-centred care and find solutions to best suit their needs. In my spare time I enjoy time with family and friends, watching movies, being a foodie and travelling overseas."

Lanka also undertakes volunteer optometry work in Papua New Guinea that was first started by retired L&F Eyecare Optometrist Dr John Farmer, who still assists the region.

Dr Ken Thomas showing young patient, Eddie, the Optomap Daytona Plus Ultra-Widefield digital camera.

This amazing, state of the art machine can, in half a second, can image up to 200 degrees or 80% of the retina through a normal undilated pupil.
And by moving the eye even more of the retina can be imaged. (Also a bonus for getting things done quickly with wiggly kids!)

The benefit of this instrument is that difficult to view pathology/ retinal degeneration in the peripheral retina can be imaged as well as the macula and optic nerve.

The software allows our optometrists to document and compare the retina at future visits. It allows us to show our patients their retina in high resolution.
We find it particularly helpful in screening for diabetic retinopathy and for assessing the retina when our patients experience flashes & floaters.

❄️ Winter Winds, Dry Eyes? You’re not imagining it.
Cold, windy days and indoor heating can strip moisture from your eyes, leading to irritation, redness, and that gritty feeling.

💧 Stay hydrated, use a humidifier, and don’t forget your lubricating drops — or better yet, book an eye check to keep your vision comfy all season long.

Your eyes deserve winter care, too. 👓💙

Give Sight, Give Life! 🌱

This year during , let’s shine a light on eye and tissue donation—a gift that transforms lives:

Last year alone, 2,486 Australians regained sight through corneal transplants, and 9,904 people received vital tissue grafts!

Anyone can donate eye or tissue—even outside a hospital up to 24 hours after death. More people are eligible than with organ donation!

✨ Why it matters

- Corneas restore sight.
- Sclera supports surgical repairs.
- Skin, bone, heart valves, tendons—all save lives or improve quality of life for those suffering from burns, cancer, heart defects, and more.

MYTH BUSTERS:

🕊️ “Will donation change how I look?” — Nope. Procedures are carried out with utmost respect, keeping funeral appearance intact.
🕊️ “I’m too old or my eyesight’s poor.” — Age, sight quality, blood type—none of it stops you. Most donors are in their 70s.

🔹 Here’s how YOU can help:

Register in under a minute—grab your phone and Medicare card.

❤️ Let’s come together this —help raise awareness about eye and tissue donation, register, and spark conversations. Because every share, every registration is a chance to restore sight and save a life.

Tag someone who’d be proud to make a difference!

Nope! Glasses don’t weaken your eyes — they help you see clearly by correcting your vision, not changing your eyes. If your prescription changes over time, it’s because your eyes are naturally changing, not because you wore your specs. 👁️✨

Wearing the right prescription actually helps prevent eye strain and headaches, so don’t skip the glasses! and be sure not to skip your regular eye exams

TO OUR TEAMS FIRST MEETING WITH THE OPTOMAP 😎

Many of our patients remark that they have experienced the most thorough eye examination of their lives after an L&F appointment! We credit the Optomap - an amazing machine we invested in at each of our three clinics.

These machine are incredible - they scan the eye 53,000 times per second (!) which gives us a comprehensive look at the health of your eyes.

Optomap is the only true, clinically validated, ultra-widefield retinal image than can capture 82% or 200⁰ of the retina, in a single capture, in each imaging modality – an increase of 50% over the next closest imaging device1. With optomap auto-montage, up to 97% or 220⁰ of the retina can be imaged with the multi-capture, montaging functionality. Deep dive on this very cool machine here https://www.lfeyecare.com.au/whatisanoptomap/

All three of our practices have this world-class technology, and we incorporate it into every comprehensive eye examination. 👀

👓 Meet Dr Markus Ochsenbein — L&F Eyecare Partner, Optometrist & Lifelong Vision Advocate!

Markus began his journey with Leunig & Farmer Eyecare straight out of Melbourne University in 1991 — and never looked back. Shortly after joining, he became a partner and co-director, shaping the direction of our practice with unwavering dedication to clinical excellence and community care.

A Fellow of the Victorian College of Optometry and a proud member of the National Vision Research Institute since 1992, Markus also earned his Therapeutic Endorsement in 2002, allowing him to provide a broader scope of clinical care to his patients.

💡 Over nearly three decades, Markus has developed a deep interest in low vision rehabilitation, working with patients at the Kooyong and Warragul Low Vision Clinics. In 1997, he received a Certificate in the Rehabilitation of the Partially Sighted, furthering his ability to support individuals with significant vision loss.

But his passion doesn’t stop there — Markus is highly experienced in Children’s Vision and Behavioural Optometry, helping young patients overcome visual barriers that may impact learning and development. He’s also committed to educating patients about preventative care and the latest advancements in eye health.

“I enjoy being able to utilise my optometric skills to provide individuals with vision solutions customised for them. It is truly rewarding to be able to enhance someone’s quality of life — especially the younger ones.”

Outside the clinic, Markus stays active by running to keep fit and traveling with his family — always on the move, always learning.

We’re proud to have Markus as a pillar of the L&F Eyecare team, serving the Gippsland community with heart, insight, and experience.
