🌟 This Saturday at Elanora Community Centre! A special evening of Kirtan with Madhava…

✨ Who is Madhava? He is a Mauritian-born musician who has been practising bhakti yoga from the age of five and completed intense training in the art of kirtan in Vrindavan, India. He travels the world to perform kirtan and mantra meditation, and inspires his audience to look within themselves and sing from the depth of their hearts.

🌟 This Saturday will feature Madhava’s uplifting chanting and divine melodies, supported by the devotional voices of his accompanying musicians, as we celebrate being together in community and 30 years of GCYC.

❣️ Need to know:
- Saturday 2nd May
- Elanora Community Centre - 26 Galleon Way, Elanora
- Doors open 4.30pm - chai and sweets
- Kirtan 5pm to 7pm

Most of us have heard the word “Karma”used in some context or other - usually referring to something being “good “ or “bad “ karma… but it doesn’t quite work that way.

Karma simply means “action”.
But every action has a consequence, so we need to be mindful.
The Bhagavad Gita tells us “Yoga karmasu kausalam” - “Yoga is skill in all of our actions “.
This is the premise behind the path of Karma Yoga (one of 4 main paths) that focuses on our actions as a means to enlightenment.

Every action has a consequence- if your actions are selfish, greedy or violent- this is the experience you contribute to the world.

If your actions are kind, generous or helpful- this is the experience you contribute to the world.

You are also impacted by your actions, although it doesn’t always look like you think (or hope) it will.

Being violent doesn’t always get a punishment in the material world.

Being generous doesn’t necessarily mean material wealth will come back to you.

The one thing I have observed/learned is that Karma is often internalised.

The greedy/selfish person is always hungry for more, never satisfied. The violent person may never truly know love (or self love), connection, vulnerability or peace.

The generous person or loving person may be satisfied with little, and know true connection, contentment and peace.

The Gita also tells us not to be motivated by the outcome (reward or fear) but simply to act, with the highest level of skill and consciousness possible.

And every action counts.

Where and how you speak to people, spend money, place your attention, use your time… everything.

Try to pause as often as you can before action (even for a split second) to tune in to whether the action you are about to take is the best for you and for all.

It feels impossible at first, but eventually becomes second nature. This is also a way to cultivate and experience the Yoga limb of Pratyahara 🪷🙏🪷
