🌀 Vestibular Migraines: More Than a Headache 🌀

Vestibular migraines can affect far more than your head, they can disrupt balance, movement, and confidence in everyday life.

Symptoms may include:
• Vertigo or spinning sensations
• Imbalance or unsteadiness
• Motion sensitivity (especially with head or visual movement)
• Nausea or vomiting

For many people, dizziness is the main issue, not pain.

💡 How physiotherapy can help
Physiotherapy plays an important role in managing vestibular migraines through:
✔️ Vestibular rehabilitation (gaze stabilisation & balance training)
✔️ Functional mobility training (walking, turning, stairs)
✔️ Reducing fall risk and fear of movement
✔️ Education around triggers, pacing, and safe activity

With the right guidance, many people can reduce dizziness, improve balance, and regain confidence in daily movement.

🖐️ Reclaiming Hand Function After Stroke

After a stroke, simple tasks like holding a cup, buttoning a shirt or typing can feel frustratingly difficult. Changes in hand strength, coordination and dexterity are common but recovery is possible.

Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy work together to help retrain the brain, strengthen the hands, and rebuild confidence through targeted exercises, task-based practice, adaptive tools and practical strategies for daily life.

With the right support, many people can regain meaningful hand function and independence. 💙

🧠 Leukodystrophies explained

Leukodystrophies are rare genetic conditions affecting around 1 in 5,000 people. With over 50 different types, symptoms and age of onset vary - and while often diagnosed in childhood, they can also appear in adulthood.

These conditions damage the brain’s white matter, affecting the myelin sheath that allows nerves to communicate, leading to progressive changes in brain function.

🔍 Symptoms may include:
Balance, strength, coordination, speech, swallowing, vision, hearing and cognition difficulties.

🤝 How Neuro Junction can help
Our physiotherapists and occupational therapists support people with leukodystrophies to maintain mobility, independence and quality of life, including equipment and home modification support.

✨ Professional Development Night! ✨
Recently, our team took part in a fantastic PD session with the audiology team at (Benowa), diving deep into dizziness and balance testing — including VEMPs, calorics and VNG.

Understanding these assessments helps us work even more closely with audiologists to accurately diagnose and effectively manage vestibular clients.
Collaboration = better care, clearer answers, and more confident recovery pathways.

Thanks to the Neurosensory team for having us! 🙌

17/11/2025

🧠 Did you know? Up to 1 in 2 stroke survivors experience sensory impairments. After a stroke, changes in sensation — like loss of light touch, reduced temperature awareness, or hypersensitivity — are more common than many realise.

These sensory issues can deeply impact recovery:
📍They affect how you interact with the world — for example, doing fine motor tasks like pinch grip or goal-directed arm movements.
📍They also influence returning to life roles, such as going back to work or hobbies.

But there’s hope! At Neuro Junction we implement sensory re-education as a key rehabilitation strategy:

⭐ Using different stimuli — light touch, vibrations, temperature changes, pressure, and varied textures — to retrain sensory pathways.
⭐ Repetition is vital: the more exposure, the better the chance for recovery.

Why this matters:
☝ Sensory impairments are often underrated in stroke recovery, but they’re strongly linked with functional outcomes.
☝ Research shows that sensory loss — especially proprioception (sense of body position) — is a major contributor to ongoing disability.

Want to support someone with sensory loss after stroke?
😀 Encourage them to talk with their physio or OT about sensory assessments.
😀 Advocate for sensory retraining as part of their rehab — it’s not just about strength, but also about rebuilding feeling.
