🧠 Did you know? Up to 1 in 2 stroke survivors experience sensory impairments. After a stroke, changes in sensation — like loss of light touch, reduced temperature awareness, or hypersensitivity — are more common than many realise.

These sensory issues can deeply impact recovery:
📍They affect how you interact with the world — for example, doing fine motor tasks like pinch grip or goal-directed arm movements.
📍They also influence returning to life roles, such as going back to work or hobbies.

But there’s hope! At Neuro Junction we implement sensory re-education as a key rehabilitation strategy:

⭐ Using different stimuli — light touch, vibrations, temperature changes, pressure, and varied textures — to retrain sensory pathways.
⭐ Repetition is vital: the more exposure, the better the chance for recovery.

Why this matters:
☝ Sensory impairments are often underrated in stroke recovery, but they’re strongly linked with functional outcomes.
☝ Research shows that sensory loss — especially proprioception (sense of body position) — is a major contributor to ongoing disability.

Want to support someone with sensory loss after stroke?
😀 Encourage them to talk with their physio or OT about sensory assessments.
😀 Advocate for sensory retraining as part of their rehab — it’s not just about strength, but also about rebuilding feeling.

✨ Big changes in home care support! ✨

From 1 November 2025, the new Support at Home Program replaced the old Home Care Packages (HCP) and Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) models.

Here’s what it means for you:
✅ More annual funding available - the top tier increased from ~$61,440 to ~$78,000.
✅ More flexibility - quarterly budgets, carry-over allowed.
✅ Three support pathways:
- Assistive Tech & Modifications,
- Restorative Care (now 12 weeks), and
- End-of-Life support.
✅ Easier access to home-modification, mobility aids & allied health.

For our older clients, or their carers, or anyone moving from hospital back home, this is a key shift you’ll want to understand - and we’re here to make it smooth ❤

If you want help navigating the change, understanding eligibility or prepping for the assessment then - Let’s talk - send us a DM or reply to this post.

🧠 Today is World Stroke Day, 29 October 2025

Today we join the Stroke Foundation Australia and the World Stroke Organisation in raising awareness about stroke prevention, recovery, and the power of rehabilitation.

A stroke can affect movement, balance, coordination, and strength, but recovery is possible. Physiotherapy plays a vital role in retraining the body and brain through neuroplasticity, helping people regain function and independence.

At Neuro Junction, we’re proud to support stroke survivors on their rehabilitation journey, one step, one movement, one connection at a time.

🦾 New Blog Alert! : Peripheral Nerve Transfer Surgery & Rehabilitation: Restoring Movement & Function

⭐ When a nerve is severely damaged and unable to heal on its own, peripheral nerve transfer surgery gives new hope — redirecting a healthy nerve to take over the damaged one. But surgery is just one part of the journey.

⭐ Rehabilitation plays a crucial role in helping regain movement, strength, sensation and independence. From early protection and motor re-education through to advanced strengthening and functional training — the process is tailored and progressive.

If you or someone you know is navigating nerve injury recovery, our team is here to help guide and support the path back to function.

🧠 Understanding Peripheral Nerve Injuries: How Physiotherapy Can Help

Peripheral nerve injuries can make everyday tasks — like gripping a cup, walking, or sensing temperature — unexpectedly difficult. These injuries can result from trauma, compression, repetitive strain, or conditions like diabetes, often leading to weakness, numbness, or pain.

💪 Physiotherapy can help restore movement, strength, and confidence through:
✅ Pain management & nerve stimulation
✅ Strength and mobility training
✅ Sensory re-education
✅ Nerve gliding exercises

Early, tailored rehabilitation can make a real difference in recovery.

If you’re noticing tingling, weakness, or loss of coordination — don’t wait. A physiotherapist can help you rebuild strength, retrain movement, and reconnect with your daily life.

🌍 It's World Alzheimer’s Day

At Neuro Junction, we stand with the millions of people and families touched by Alzheimer’s disease. It’s not just about memory—it’s about dignity, care, connection and hope.

💡 What can you do?

📍Share your stories to raise awareness.
📍Be kind, patient, and present with someone who is living with Alzheimer’s.
