💪 Exercise & MS – What the Research Says

Staying active with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) isn’t just safe, it’s essential.
Research shows that exercise can:
✔️ Improve physical and mental wellbeing
✔️ Reduce fatigue and depressive symptoms
✔️ Lower relapse rates (~27%)
✔️ Slow disability progression
✔️ Support neuroplasticity (your brain’s ability to adapt)

🧠 Recommendations include:
🔹 Early assessment by a physio, OT, or exercise professional
🔹 A tailored exercise or lifestyle activity plan
🔹 Aiming for 150+ minutes/week of activity (adjusted for symptoms)
🔹 Regular review and progression by a trained professional

🏃‍♀️ At Neuro Junction, we help you build a program that suits your ability, goals, and interests. From walking and dancing to resistance training, coordination, and posture work — we focus on movement that feels good and works for you!

🧡 When caring for someone with a neurological condition, the right support can truly make a difference. 💙

From understanding their diagnosis to connecting them socially, here are five meaningful ways to be there:

1. Educate yourself – Learn about their condition, treatments, and what to expect.
2. Encourage independence – Let them take the lead in decisions and daily routines.
3.Coordinate practical help – Meal prep, appointments, therapy sessions—super helpful!
4. Focus on mental wellbeing – Advocate for counselling, peer support groups, or mindfulness.
5. Stay connected – Regular catch-ups, invites to outings—even short phone calls help them feel part of life.

At Neuro Junction, our team supports your whole family through physiotherapy, occupational therapy, lifestyle coaching, and more.

🚶‍♂️ Walking After a Stroke: Regain Confidence, Step by Step

After a stroke, walking may feel unfamiliar—one leg might be weaker, your balance might be off, or moving around may feel more effortful. That’s where physiotherapy (and a walking assessment) can make all the difference.

👣 What’s a Gait Analysis?
It’s a detailed look at how you walk—your step pattern, balance, posture, and leg movement—to find what’s changed and how to support your recovery.

🧠 From there, we build a tailored rehab plan with:
✅ Strength and balance exercises
✅ Walking retraining
✅ Mobility aids if needed
✅ Stretching to ease stiffness

🌟 The goal?
To help you walk more safely, with less effort, and feel confident on your feet again.
If you or a loved one is recovering from a stroke and noticing changes in walking, we’re here to help.

📞 Contact NeuroJunction to book a gait analysis today.

🏡 Making the transition from hospital to home after a spinal cord injury is a pivotal moment. With the right planning, it can be smooth, safe, and empowering. 💙

Here’s what to get right before day one back home:
⭐️Home environment audit – Ramps, grab rails, clear pathways—prior preparation prevents hazards.
⭐️Care team coordination – Discharge plans, physio schedules, nursing appointments, and in-home care are arranged early.
⭐️Daily routine adjustments – Accessible meals, adaptive devices, and smart home tools for independence.
⭐️Mobility doesn’t stop – Consistent physio, strength training, and wheelchair skills build confidence and safety.
⭐️Emotional support matters – Peer groups, counsellors, and family check-ins all help foster resilience and hope.

At Neuro Junction, our physios and OT's partner with you and your care providers to create tailored home programs, mobility training, and life adaptations that promote wellbeing and independence.

🧠 What Is Multiple System Atrophy (MSA)?

MSA is a rare, progressive neurological condition that affects movement, balance, and automatic body functions like blood pressure, bladder control, and swallowing.

🧍‍♂️🧍‍♀️ It often starts around age 50–60 and affects both men and women.
🧬 It’s not inherited and currently has no known cause.
🇦🇺 Around 2,500 Australians live with MSA.

While it can look like Parkinson’s early on, MSA follows a different path — and tailored support is essential.

💪 At Neuro Junction, our physios and OTs help with:
✔️ Balance & falls prevention
✔️ Strength, mobility & posture
✔️ Daily task support & home safety
✔️ Bladder, bowel & blood pressure management

You're not alone — we work closely with individuals and families to stay active, independent, and supported.

Brain Healing After a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI): What You Need to Know:

🧠 Recovering from a traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a deeply personal journey, and understanding the healing process can make the difference between surviving and thriving. 🌟

Here’s what to consider:
✅Brain plasticity matters – The brain can rewire and heal, but it takes time, support, and the right tools.
✅Early intervention is key – Comprehensive therapies (physio, OT, speech therapy) offer the best chance for recovery.
✅Energy & patience go hand-in-hand – Healing is a marathon, not a sprint—celebrate small wins along the way.
✅Harness tech for progress – From virtual reality balance exercises to cognitive apps, modern tools can speed recovery.
✅A strong support network is essential – Loved ones, therapists, and peer groups provide care, encouragement, and hope.

At Neuro Junction, our neuroscience-informed rehab programs combine movement, cognition, mood, and motivation to help people rebuild strong, resilient lives.

Retraining High-level mobility – Is walking enough?

🧠💪 Is walking really enough to regain full mobility after a neurological event?

We know that recovery is about more than just walking laps.
High-level mobility—like climbing stairs, navigating uneven terrain, or reacting quickly to avoid a fall—requires targeted, progressive training.

Our physios with a special interest in neurology and rehabilitation go beyond the basics with:
✅ Obstacle navigation
✅ Reactive balance work
✅ Strength & agility drills
✅ Dual-task training (thinking while moving)

Because independence isn’t just walking—it’s moving with confidence in the real world. 🌍

What is proprioception—and why does it matter?

Proprioception is your body’s built-in GPS. It tells your brain where your limbs are and how they’re moving—without needing to look. It's what helps you walk without watching your feet, bring a spoon to your mouth, or balance while standing still.

But when proprioception is impaired—as it can be after stroke, brain injury, or in conditions like MS or Parkinson’s—daily activities become more difficult.

People may experience:
📍Unsteady balance or falls
📍Clumsy or uncoordinated movements
📍Difficulty judging where their body is in space

🧩 It’s different from neglect, which is when the brain ignores one side of the body—a problem of attention, not movement.

The good news? Proprioception can be retrained. Through targeted physiotherapy—such as balance training, joint sense exercises, and sensory stimulation—many people improve body awareness and movement control.

Why Choose Home Visits for Physio or OT?

For many people recovering from illness, injury, or managing a neurological condition, attending appointments outside the home isn’t always easy—or even possible.

That’s where home visits can make all the difference. 🧡

✔️ Comfort & convenience – Therapy happens in your own space, on your schedule
✔️ Real-life relevance – Strategies and exercises are tailored to your actual environment
✔️ Improved safety & independence – Therapists can assess hazards, suggest modifications, and build confidence at home
✔️ Family involvement – Loved ones can observe sessions and support follow-through
✔️ Reduced fatigue – Less travel means more energy for therapy itself

Whether it’s regaining mobility, relearning tasks, or modifying your environment, home visits bring therapy to where it matters most.

Embracing Change: Making Life Easier for Older Adults

Ageing is about adapting to change with grace and dignity. We’re proud to support older adults as they embrace life’s transitions, from downsizing and giving up driving to planning meals and making home safe and comfortable.

Here’s how to make those next steps smoother:

🏡 Refresh your living space: Go through and declutter. Keep only what’s useful or meaningful.

🔑 Plan ahead when stepping away from the car: Set up regular lifts, explore community transport options, and use online services.

🥗 Keep meals easy and nourishing: Batch cook and freeze, use meal-delivery or Meals on Wheels, and keep healthy staples stocked.

💡 Small changes = big impact: Remove tripping hazards, use assistive devices (think grab rails, non-slip mats), set reminders, and stay active—daily walks or chair exercises count!

Thinking ahead is the key: chat with family, organise your support options, set up directives, and call in the help of physiotherapists and occupational therapists to design a home that truly works for you.

At Neuro Junction, we’re here to help you stay strong, safe, and independent—whether that’s through tailored physiotherapy, balance training, home visits, or aged care planning.
