Tenodesis Grip: Small Movement, Big Impact 🖐️
After spinal cord injury, hand function can be regained in clever ways. Tenodesis grip uses wrist movement to create grasp - no finger movement needed.
➡️ Wrist back = fingers curl = grasp
➡️ Wrist forward = fingers open = release
Best for:
C6–C7 tetraplegia
Why it matters:
Helps with everyday tasks like holding objects, eating, grooming, and phone use—boosting independence.
Key tip ⚠️
Avoid fully straightening your fingers -—it can weaken your grip.
With the right guidance, tenodesis can be a game changer in rehab.
💬 Our physio & OT team can help you maximise your hand function.
Recently we recognised World Parkinson’s Day, a time to raise awareness, start conversations, and support those living with Parkinson’s.
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological condition that affects movement, balance, and coordination, but it’s more than just a tremor. It can also impact mood, sleep, cognition, and overall quality of life.
In Australia, over 150,000 people are living with Parkinson’s, with around 50 new diagnoses every day.
At Neuro Junction, we see first-hand how important the right support and movement-based therapy can be. Physiotherapy plays a key role in helping people:
✔️ Improve balance and walking
✔️ Maintain strength and mobility
✔️ Reduce falls risk
✔️ Stay active and independent for longer
Research shows that regular exercise can even help slow the decline in quality of life, making movement medicine more powerful than ever.
💬 Today is a reminder that awareness matters.
💙 Every conversation helps break stigma.
🤝 And no one should navigate Parkinson’s alone.
If you or someone you love is living with Parkinson’s, our team is here to support you every step of the way.
Regaining independence after upper limb amputation isn’t just about healing - it’s about rebuilding life. 💪
Rehabilitation plays a vital role in helping individuals regain function, confidence, and everyday independence after upper limb amputation.
From early stages to long-term recovery, rehab focuses on:
✨ Strength and movement retraining
✨ Learning to use a prosthesis (if appropriate)
✨ Rebuilding everyday skills like dressing, cooking & working
✨ Managing pain, including phantom limb sensations
✨ Supporting emotional adjustment and confidence
A personalised, team-based approach is key, combining physio, OT, and specialist care to help each person reach their goals.
Recovery doesn’t happen overnight, but with the right support, meaningful function and independence are absolutely achievable.
If you or someone you know is navigating life after amputation, you’re not alone, the right rehab team can make all the difference.
A concussion is a type of mild traumatic brain injury that affects how your brain functions - even if scans look normal.
Symptoms can show up straight away… or hours (even days) later.
✨ Common signs to watch for:
• Headaches or pressure in the head
• Dizziness or balance issues
• Brain fog, memory or concentration problems
• Sensitivity to light or vision changes
• Fatigue or low energy
• Mood changes or irritability
No two concussions are the same, and around 30% of people can experience prolonged symptoms.
💡 The good news?
With the right assessment and rehab, recovery can be guided safely and effectively.
At Neuro Junction, our team can help with:
✔️ Comprehensive concussion assessment
✔️ Vestibular (balance) and vision rehab
✔️ Neck and movement treatment
✔️ Gradual return-to-work, school & sport planning
⚠️ Think you or someone you know has a concussion?
Don’t wait it out, early support makes a big difference.
Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFOs) aren’t just about holding the foot in place — they’re powerful tools that can improve walking, stability, and independence.
From rigid designs that maximise support, to dynamic options that assist movement, each AFO is carefully chosen to match the individual and their goals.
They can help with:
✔️ Foot drop
✔️ Balance and stability
✔️ Reducing falls risk
✔️ Improving walking efficiency
✔️ Supporting neurological conditions
AFOs are often part of a bigger rehab picture — combining physio, strength work, and functional training to get the best outcomes.
✨ The key? The right device, for the right person, at the right time.
If you’ve ever wondered whether an AFO might help you or someone you care for, our team can guide you through the options.
This week is Brain Awareness Week, a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness about brain health, neurological conditions, and the incredible science behind how our brains work.
At Neuro Junction, we see every day how important brain health is for movement, balance, recovery, and overall wellbeing. Conditions affecting the brain and nervous system can impact people in many different ways - but with the right support and therapy, improvement is possible.
✨ This week is a great reminder to:
• Look after your brain health
• Learn more about neurological conditions
• Support ongoing research and awareness
If you or someone you care about is living with a neurological condition, you’re not alone. Our team is here to help support recovery, function, and quality of life.

Your 1RM (one-rep max) is the maximum weight you can lift for a single repetition. We usually estimate it using a formula based on how many reps you can perform with a lighter weight.
For example, if you can squat 20kg for 10 reps, your estimated 1RM is about 26.7kg.
Why does this matter?
Physios use your 1RM to prescribe the right level of strength training, ensuring exercises are challenging, safe, and effective for your goals, experience, and current condition.

💪 Ever wondered what goes into measuring strength in a clinical setting? In our latest blog, we break down the different ways our therapists assess muscle strength - from hands-on manual muscle testing to advanced objective tools like dynamometers and real-world functional tasks.
➡️ We explore:
• Manual Muscle Testing: graded against resistance to see how well key muscle groups perform 💥
• Dynamometry: giving us precise, measurable force data 📊
• Functional Tasks: — real movement tests like sit-to-stands 🌟
• Weight Measures: including 1-rep max lifts to quantify strength progress 💯
Whether you’re focused on rehab, performance, or everyday function — understanding strength gives us the roadmap to help you reach your goals 🙌
Staying Strong with Parkinson’s - Supporting movement, confidence & quality of life
Living with Parkinson’s can feel daunting, but strength, connection, and meaningful movement can make a powerful difference. In this newsletter edition, we share expert insights, practical tools you can try at home, and ways to connect with the Parkinson’s community as we approach World Parkinson’s Day on April 11.
🧠 What is Sensory Retraining & How Can It Help You?
After a neurological injury or condition, sensation can be affected — things like touch, proprioception (body awareness), vibration and object recognition may not feel quite right. 👇
Sensory retraining helps your brain and nervous system relearn how to interpret these inputs, improving coordination, confidence and independence in everyday activities. It’s often used for conditions like:
✨ Stroke recovery
✨ Traumatic Brain Injury
✨ Multiple Sclerosis
✨ Parkinson’s Disease
✨ Peripheral nerve injuries and more.
📌 Through targeted physiotherapy and occupational therapy exercises - such as balance tasks, tactile stimulation, functional movement practice and fine motor activities - Neuro Junction’s therapists support you to reconnect sensation with movement and function.
