Vaccinations against shingles are the best way to protect you and your love ones. It is available in our pharmacy as private vaccine for people 50 to 65 and as NIP (free) for people aged 65 and older.

The protection rate is very high and about 90%. Two doses are needed, the second dose is 6 to 12 months later.

It is free (NIP) for people aged 65+ and 18+ for selected groups with moderate and severe immunocompromise.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are very common – particularly in women. The most common type of UTIs are bladder infections, also known as cystitis.
You might have a UTI if you have any of the following:
• experience discomfort while urinating
• have symptoms like blood, a foul odour, or pain during urination
• Constantly feel the urge to p*e but can never fully empty your bladder

✅ Minimise your risk with a few simple steps:
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, don't hold in your urine when nature calls, and always remember to wipe from front to back after using the toilet.
💊 If you suspect a UTI, visiting your GP is usually the first step, as they can prescribe antibiotics that work quickly and effectively to treat the infection.
Women aged between 18 and 65, with symptoms of an uncomplicated UTI, may be able to access treatment from selected pharmacies. Talk to your friendly Capital Chemist pharmacist today.

Our pharmacists can vaccinate from aged 5. There will be 2 vaccine options to choose from in the 2025 season for people aged 5-64, the traditional 4 strain vaccine grown in egg cells, and a newer technology 4 strain 'cell-vaccine'.

For patients aged over 65yrs we have the stronger flu vaccine specifically designed for this age group and since this vaccine is available through the National Immunisation Program there is no out of pocket expense for this group.

We also have access to the NIP flu vaccines for patients who are aged 5-64yrs who are medically at risk of complications from influenza and they will be free. Eligibility criteria apply.

People eligible for the government funded influenza vaccination program (NIP) are;
* People aged 65yrs and over
* Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, aged 6 months and over
* People with:
- cardiac disease
- chronic respiratory conditions
- chronic neurological conditions
- immunocompromising conditions
- diabetes and other metabolic conditions
- renal disease
- haematological disorders

On the Kingston Foreshore you will see the new 24/7 publicly available Automated External Difibrillator. Capital Chemist have supported 23 difibs to be located around Canberra. Community Program Manager Melita Flynn was present today for the unveiling of the new AED cabinet, along with Service One CEO Ivan Slavich who initiated this project, CEO Martin Fisk from St John Ambulance and Daniel Prior from Jim's Building Maintenance.
