Perimenopause to menopause is not only about hot flushes and dry vaginal tissue. It is also a time of emotional change that can cause women to feel "unstuck."
It doesn't feel like depression nor does it feel like anxiety.
Between the ages of 35-50 our progesterone levels are lowering. This sets up a situation of relative oestrogen dominance. Progesterone is our hormone of calm and stimulates GABA which helps calm anxiety.
Low Progesterone= low GABA= high anxiety, panic and overwhelm.
So how do we support progesterone?
Nutrients such as vitamin B6, magnesium and zinc which are all involved in the synthesis of hormones and neurotransmitter production.
Herbs such as Chaste Tree, Black cohosh and Paeony help to balance hormones and in particular progesterone.
