GenV is helping researchers see if vaccines for pregnant women are safe for mums and babies.

Because so many families are part of GenV, it’s easier to see patterns in vaccine safety over time.

MCRI Professor Jim Buttery talked about it on ABC Radio’s Health Report.

Thank you to our GenV families who are helping us make this our healthiest generation ever.

Calling GenV parents – child food survey closing soon!

Have your say on store-brought foods for children. If you have been sent a survey, you can still complete it. The survey closes on August 17th.

Every family’s experience matters.

A huge thank you to over 7,000 GenV families who have already done theirs!

This important work is a collaboration between GenV, Food for Health Alliance , and VicHealth . Together with GenV families, we hope to help make store-bought food for children better for all families.

Earlier this week we celebrated National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day!

This year’s theme is Little Footsteps, Big Future. It honours the journey our First Nations children take as they grow.

Little Footsteps, Big Future is so relevant to GenV. We’re working to support the health and wellbeing of all First Nations people by creating a culturally safe place where First Nations communities can answer questions relevant to them. This is only possible because of over 800 First Nation parents and their children that have joined GenV.

Meet Saada and Mya! Saada joined GenV because family means a lot to her.

“What drew me to GenV was their motto and their philosophy... that every family is important… and every child’s future is important, and every child’s presence is important.”

GenV wants to help make the future better for all kids and families. We’re so thankful to the over 49,000 children and their families who are already part of GenV!

If you live in Victoria and have a child born between October 2021 and October 2023, you can join too.

Meet Jess and Koah! For Jess and her family, joining GenV was an easy decision. Particularly after seeing the benefits of care guided by research. Their middle child Reggie was born Deaf. Their family saw firsthand how data collection can lead to better outcomes for families. Jess believes that having answers is powerful, especially when navigating health challenges.

Now, with Koah as a GenV kid, Jess appreciates how simple it is to take part. From quick sign-up to gentle reminders and quick check-ins via the app. Her family feels supported every step of the way.

Most of all, Jess knows their contribution is safe, secure, and meaningful. “It was a no-brainer,” she says. “It's such a big data collection opportunity that requires so little from us.”.

Be part of something big. Hear more from Jess here: https://www.genv.org.au/blog/genv-parents/meet-jess-and-koah/

GenV’s first focus survey is now underway! GenV, and are working together to understand family experiences of store-bought foods for young children. A big thank you to over 4,000 GenV families who have helped us so far.

It's not too late! If you have been sent a survey, you can still complete it. Your input can help improve the food choices available to families now and in the future.

We caught up with Dr. Sherly Li, paediatric dietitian and GenV Research Fellow, to talk about why learning from family experiences with food is so important to improving children’s health. Read more at our blog - https://www.genv.org.au/food-survey/

This week is NAIDOC week! NAIDOC week highlights the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year's theme is The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy. This theme feels so relevant to GenV. This year we're progressing important work to develop First Nations led Data Governance and Sovereignty with GenV's First Nations Advisory Group.

We hope this work both supports and honours the strength, vision and legacy of First Nations communities. Especially, the more than 900 GenV parents who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and their children who are taking part in GenV.

Thank you to our incredible First Nations families who are making this work possible.

Today is World Microbiome Day!

Celebrated on the 27th of June, it focuses on raising awareness of the role of our microbiome. This includes how our microbiome impacts health, environment and daily life.

Richard Saffery, GenV’s Deputy Scientific Director, talks about GenV’s longitudinal child stool samples and how these are so important to science. Thanks to our GenV families, we have almost 10,000 child stool samples helping make this possible! 💩

This year’s Refugee Week theme celebrates the power of community. It celebrates the richness that comes from our diverse stories, cultures, and experiences.

At GenV, we believe that every family’s voice matters — including families from refugee backgrounds. These families bring strength, resilience, and diversity to our shared future.

GenV is Australia’s largest child and parent research project. We are dedicated to making GenV inclusive and accessible to all. No matter where families come from, what language they speak, or what their story is. Every family is welcome.

Because true freedom means being seen, included, and valued in the communities we call home.

GenV’s first focus survey is coming in June!

Food is an important part of our lives. There are lots of store-brought foods for babies and young children in our supermarkets. From pouches to snacks and meals. We are excited to be sending our first focus survey this week.

We want to hear from GenV parents about their experiences with these foods. For example, what are the most common types of foods your child eats? We’ll be sending surveys to primary parents from June – July.

GenV parent responses can help inform new rules for how these foods are made and sold.

GenV Parents – Keep an eye out for your ‘About Your Child’s Food Survey’!
