The people have spoken… and we’re blushing.

We’re not usually ones to toot our own horn (ok, maybe just a little), but we’ve been blown away by the love from our course participants lately.

From “best course I’ve ever done” to “every parent needs this”, it’s clear that first aid hits different when it’s delivered by paramedics, nurses and people who just get it.

Real feedback. Real impact. Real-life skills that stick.

Stepped on a bluebottle? Here’s what to do (and what not to do) when one of those stingy little suckers crashes your beach day. They might be small, but they really know how to ruin a perfectly good paddle.

❌ DON’T:
• Don’t rub the sting. It spreads the venom.
• Don’t use fresh water. It can cause more venom to release.
• Don’t pour vinegar. That one’s for box jellyfish, not blueys.

✅ DO:
• Remove tentacles using tweezers or the edge of a card.
• Rinse the area in seawater (yep, the same stuff you were just swimming in).
• Immerse the stung area in hot water (ideally 45°C) for up to 20 minutes to relieve pain.
• Seek medical help if the pain is severe, the sting covers a large area, or if there are any signs of an allergic reaction.

🧰 Hot tip: Keep a small thermos and tweezers in your beach bag this summer. You’ll thank yourself later.

Merry Christmas from all of us at Emergcare!

Thanks for being part of our community this year. We’ve loved empowering you with the skills and confidence to take care of the people you love most.

🎁 Festive First Aid Tip:

If there are kids around today, watch out for the sneaky hazards tucked inside toy boxes, button batteries, magnets, or tiny plastic parts. They're small, tempting, and a major choking risk.

Wishing you a safe, happy, and joy-filled day.

One-and-done vs repeat offender.

If you're being buzzed by a flying menace, how you react matters, especially around kids. Here's what to know:

If a bee or wasp is flying around you:
🚫 Don’t swat: fast movements can make them feel threatened.
🚶 Stay calm and walk away slowly (no flailing, no panic-dancing).
🖐️ Hands in pockets: less movement = less attention.
👃 Avoid strong scents: perfumes and sugary drinks attract them.
🌸 Bright colours = bug magnets (especially florals).
And if you do get stung?
🩹 Remove the stinger (for bees) by scraping, not tweezing.
🧊 Apply a cold compress.
🚨 Watch for signs of allergic reaction: swelling, difficulty breathing, dizziness. Call Triple Zero if concerned.

It’s the kind of stuff we teach in our courses so you’re calm and confident even when nature has a go.

👉 Save this post. Book a course. Stay cool under pressure.

This might be a scene from a UK drama... but anaphylaxis is very real. And very scary.

In this episode of Waterloo Road, a student named Hope eats a cupcake and has an anaphylactic reaction. The teachers spring into action. An EpiPen is used. But it doesn’t work. The panic sets in.

It’s fictional.
But this happens in real schools, real homes, real playgrounds — every day.

In Australia:
⚠️ Around 1 in 10 infants have a diagnosed food allergy
⚠️ Anaphylaxis-related hospital admissions have more than doubled over the past decade
⚠️ And yes, sometimes, one EpiPen isn’t enough

Would you know what to do if this happened in front of you?
Could you stay calm, act fast, and help save a life?

We’ve seen what happens when people don’t know.
We’ve also seen the difference when they do.

💛 Don’t wait until you’re in the moment to learn what to do.
🩺 Honestly... what price do you put on knowing how to save a life?

While you're decking the halls and dodging that one neighbour’s blow-up Santa, here’s your friendly reminder that some of the biggest holiday hazards are hiding in plain sight.

Let’s break it down:
🕯 Scented candles: They smell like cinnamon and Christmas cheer, but they’re a fire waiting to happen near flammable tinsel, paper decorations or tablecloths. Keep them high, keep them stable, or opt for flameless versions instead.

🧃Lookalike drinks: A half-finished mimosa in a juice glass or a cocktail that looks like cordial? Easy to mix up when you’ve got distracted adults and thirsty kids around. Keep alcoholic drinks away from little hands (and make sure water is always available too).

🎁 Tiny decorations: Those sparkly little ornaments and festive baubles look like toys to curious toddlers. If it can fit through a toilet roll, it’s a choking risk. Keep them higher on the tree or skip the miniatures altogether.

🎄 Christmas trees = climbing frames: To toddlers, that glittering tree might as well be a jungle gym. Secure your tree to the wall or use a heavy base, and don’t hang breakables or hooks within grabbing distance.

🍗 Food left out too long: It’s hot, everyone’s grazing, and that potato salad has been sitting in the sun for four hours. Bacteria thrive in warm weather, so pop leftovers in the fridge after 1-2 hours (or sooner if it’s 30°C+).

💦 Wet tiles and slippery floors: Between backyard pool parties and overexcited kids charging inside with wet feet, falls happen fast. Pop down mats at entryways and have towels handy for quick clean-ups.

These are the kind of hazards you might not spot until you’ve already got an injury, a clean-up, or a visit to emergency on your hands.

11/12/2025

🐾 Got a dog and a toddler in the house? This one’s for you.

We talk a lot about dogs being unpredictable around children…
But what about kids being unpredictable around dogs? 👶🏻🐶

Crawling babies and curious toddlers don’t always understand boundaries...tugging tails, poking noses, grabbing ears. And sometimes, even the gentlest dog might react when caught off guard.

So here’s your friendly reminder:
✔️ Always supervise
✔️ Use baby gates or playpens to create safe zones
✔️ Respect both your child’s and your dog’s space
✔️ And don’t rely on “it’s never happened before” because it only takes one moment

Keeping everyone safe means keeping everyone separate sometimes.

📲 Save this. Share it. Tell your dog-loving parent friends.
