Googled “First Aid Course” lately?

We don’t blame you if it left you more confused than confident.
So. Many. Options.
So how do you know what actually matters when choosing a course?

Here’s what we’d be thinking about 👇

✅ 1. What’s the purpose of the training?
Are you a parent wanting paediatric first aid? A professional upskilling for work?
Someone who wants to feel calm in a crisis?
Make sure the course is designed for the kind of emergencies you might face. Because generic won’t cut it.

✅ 2. Who’s teaching it?
Are they healthcare professionals who’ve actually worked in emergencies or just someone trained to train?
Our facilitators are paediatric nurses, paramedics, and first responders.
We don’t just teach this stuff. We live it.

✅ 3. Is the training hands-on or all talk?
Watching slides ≠ learning.
Look for a course that lets you practise CPR, choking response, bandaging, burn care and more, not just hear about it.
You don’t want to be googling in a real emergency.

✅ 4. What support is offered? Do they welcome questions? Do they get the reality of parenthood, workplaces and everything in between?
You want a team that’s not just qualified, but human.

At Emergcare, we’re about real-world. No fluff. No scary jargon. Just people who know what to do, and how to make sure you do too.

We’ve walked into the worst days of people’s lives and here’s what we wish more parents knew before we got there.

You don’t need to be calm.
You don’t need to be perfect.
You don’t need to remember every single step.

You just need to start.

Start CPR.
Start cooling the burn.
Start the call to 000.

The biggest difference we see isn’t intelligence. It’s hesitation, and hesitation is what first aid training removes.
From paramedics and paediatric nurses who’ve lived it, this is what matters most.

Pre-training setup at Emergcare looks a bit like a very organised daycare.
Tiny humans.
Perfect rows.
Absolute silence.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Because in about 20 minutes, these little legends are going to be flipped, compressed, rescued, and very thoroughly practised on. That’s how we teach.

Not just slides.
Not just talking.
Hands on. Repetition. Muscle memory.

When it’s your actual baby and your heart is in your throat, you don’t rise to the level of the PowerPoint.
You fall back on what you’ve practised.
And we make sure you practise.

Do your kids know how to call for help in an emergency?

Here’s the thing…when something scary happens, kids often look to us. But what if we're the ones who need help?
Teaching your child when and how to call Triple Zero (000) can literally save a life and it’s never too early to start.

✅ Here’s what we recommend:
▪️ Teach them to say your full address
▪️ Show them what Triple Zero is for and when not to call
▪️ Let them practice with a toy phone or by acting it out
▪️ Explain that it’s OK to be scared but speaking clearly helps the ambos help you
▪️ Make sure they know if you’re ever hurt or unresponsive, calling for help is the bravest thing they can do

💡 Most kids can start learning this from around age 3 especially if you keep it simple, repeat it often, and make it part of everyday chats.

You’d be amazed what little ones are capable of when it counts. And if they know what to do... they just might do it.

You’d spot a sunburn from a mile away but would you notice the early signs of dehydration?
In summer, dehydration can creep up fast, especially in babies and toddlers who can’t tell you what they need.

Here are some of the sneaky signs that your little one might be running low on fluids:
🫗 Fewer wet nappies than usual
💋 Dry lips or a dry mouth
😴 More sleepy, drowsy or floppy than usual
🥵 Hot, flushed skin (without sweating)
😵 Sunken eyes or a sunken fontanelle (that soft spot on bubs’ head)

If you notice these signs, it’s time to act:
💧 Offer small, frequent sips of water or breastmilk/formula
🏖️ Cool them down (shade, fan, cool cloths)
🩺 And if they’re not improving or seem really out of sorts, get medical help quickly.

Save this post. Tag the parent who’s always chasing a toddler with a drink bottle.

Hydration is a summer essential, just like sunscreen.

There’s a difference between learning first aid from a textbook… and learning it from people who’ve lived it.

At Emergcare, we’re proud to bring together a team of educators who’ve spent years on the frontline… in ambulances, in paediatric wards, and in emergency departments.

We’ve responded to real emergencies. We’ve supported real families. And now, we’re in the room with you, breaking down what to do, why it matters, and how to stay calm when everything feels chaotic.

We don’t just teach first aid. We teach it the way you’ll actually remember it.
This is what experience looks like in action.

Here’s a stat that might make you pause before the next pool day:
👉 60% of child swimming pool drownings involve just one adult supervising multiple kids.

We get it… summer holidays are hectic. Backyard BBQs, kids running in every direction, and someone’s always asking for snacks. But when water’s involved? Distractions can be deadly.

Here’s how to keep things safer around the pool (without ruining the fun):
💧 Nominate a dedicated water watcher. Someone whose only job is to watch the pool (no scrolling, no multitasking).
💧 Take shifts with other adults so everyone gets a break.
💧 Keep younger swimmers within arm’s reach.
💧 Don’t rely on floaties as a substitute for supervision.

Water play should be fun. But it also needs to be focused. A quiet backyard pool can become a tragic scene in seconds and the signs aren’t always loud.

Tag someone you're planning a pool day with this summer. Let’s all be a little more water-wise.

Your child falls. They’re not crying. They’re quiet. You know that’s not a good sign.
You rush over, heart in your throat… and suddenly your brain is scrambling.
What did they teach us about head injuries again?
Do I call 000 now? Do I wait? Do I just… watch and see?

These are the moments our first aid courses are made for. Not textbook scenarios. Real ones. The kind that happen on a Tuesday afternoon in your backyard. Or on the couch. Or in the bathroom.

And in our classes, you don’t just sit and listen. You get up. You practice. You learn how to actually respond when your world gets flipped on its head.

It’s not about being perfect.
It’s about being ready.
