They say when you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.
We’re not sure that’s entirely true…

There are long days. Big conversations. Heavy moments. But there’s also this.
Standing in a room full of parents, knowing that what you’re teaching could one day make a real difference.
Seeing the shift from “I have no idea what I’d do” to “okay… I’ve got this.”

That’s the part we love.
This isn’t just content or theory for us. It’s something we’ve lived. Something we’ve seen firsthand.
And being able to pass that on in a way that actually makes sense, that people remember…that’s what makes it all worth it.

It starts with “just a bit of a temperature”…
Next minute? Spots.

Yep, it’s that time again.
Hand, Foot & Mouth is out and about.
Highly contagious.
Very annoying.
And somehow always timed perfectly with daycare, birthdays or that thing you really didn’t want to cancel.

The good news?
Most cases are mild and manageable.
The less fun news?
It spreads like wildfire if you’re not careful.

Swipe through for information on symptoms, what it looks like, and how to (try to) keep it contained… or at least survive it with your sanity intact.

A room full of people who don’t know each other. Coffee cups in hand. Bags tucked under chairs.
A few “I’d probably panic to be honest…”
Some nervous laughs.
Then slowly… people leaning in.
Asking questions.
Giving it a go.
You can see it happen.
The shift from “this is a bit overwhelming”
to “hang on… that actually makes sense.”

Manikins in.
People practising.
Someone getting it right and quietly saying, “okay that’s good to know.”
It’s never loud.
It’s never dramatic.
Just a room full of people learning something they really hope they never have to use.
And still showing up anyway.

When panic hits, things get messy. Your thoughts race. Your hands feel unsure. And that calm, step-by-step plan? Gone.
That’s why rhythm matters.

CPR isn’t guesswork. It’s 100–120 compressions per minute. In those high-stress moments, something as simple as a song can keep you on track.

🎶 Stayin’ Alive
🎶 Flowers
🎶 Uptown Funk
🎶 Can’t Stop The Feeling

We actually teach this in our sessions because when adrenaline kicks in, your brain won’t remember steps… but it will remember rhythm. And that rhythm can save a life.

And if those aren’t your vibe:
🎧 Blinding Lights
🎧 Levitating
🎧 About Damn Time
🎧 Don’t Start Now

Whatever works… just keep the beat steady, and keep going.

In Australia, young children under 4 are at the highest risk of choking, and most incidents happen at home, during everyday meals.

A few simple habits make a big difference:
• Sit them upright (no pram or car seat snacks)
• Supervise at all times. We recommend staying within arm’s reach
• Modify textures appropriately as foods that are small, round or firm need adjusting for little airways.
• Take it slow. Encourage small bites and calm mealtimes.

Feeding babies isn’t about fear. It’s about awareness.
Save this. Share it with a new parent. And if your choking first aid feels a little rusty… you know where to find us.

It’s World Health Day.

And while the world talks big-picture health…we’re over here thinking about the moments that change everything.

Health isn’t just green smoothies and step counts. It’s knowing what to do when someone stops breathing. It’s recognising when a baby isn’t quite right. It’s having the confidence to act instead of freeze.

We’ve seen firsthand how quickly “normal” can turn into emergency and we’ve also seen how powerful it is when someone nearby knows what to do. That’s health too.

Preparedness.
Confidence.
Community.

Today’s a good reminder that looking after your health also means being ready to protect the people around you.
And that’s something worth celebrating.

Happy Easter from our team to yours 🐣

Whether your day looks like egg hunts, family lunches or just surviving the sugar highs and crashes… we hope it’s a good one. Quick friendly reminder from two paramedic dads (who’ve seen how quickly things can go sideways):

🍫 Mini eggs: small, round and a choking risk for little ones
🐰 Wrappers & foil: shiny, tempting… not for eating
🧺 Egg hunts: excited kids + running = bumps and falls
🍞 Hot cross buns: dense and sticky, take it slow with little mouths
🐶 Chocolate + pets: never a good mix

We’re not here to ruin the fun… just to keep it a safe one.

Enjoy the long weekend, keep an eye on the little ones, and maybe pace the chocolate (for everyone )

Today is World Autism Day and in our world, that means thinking about how first aid and emergencies can feel for every child.

For some autistic children, an emergency isn’t just scary, it can be overwhelming in a completely different way.
So here are a few practical things to keep in mind 👇

▪️Keep your language simple and clear
Short, direct instructions work best. Too many words can add to the overwhelm.

▪️ Be mindful of sensory triggers
Sirens, bright lights, lots of people talking at once… these can escalate distress quickly.

▪️Give space where you can
Not every child will want to be touched straight away. Approach calmly and explain what you’re doing.

▪️ Slow it down (where possible)
Even in urgent situations, a calm, steady approach can help reduce panic.

First aid isn’t just about the treatment. It’s about how we show up in those moments.

Kids love to test their superhero moves on the playground… but they don’t always go to plan 🦸‍♂️

If a fall happens and you suspect a fracture:

👉 Give them some pain relief (e.g. paracetamol or ibuprofen)
👉 Reduce movement of the injured area if possible, by applying a splint or sling
👉 Apply an ice pack
👉 Elevate the limb

Then seek medical help at your GP or local emergency department 🏥

You know that moment when a rash appears and you’re suddenly playing detective?
Is it heat rash?
Is it viral?
Is it something they ate?
Is it “Google says it’s catastrophic”? 😅

Here’s a simple first aid hack we swear by:
📸 Take a photo.

Before you give antihistamines.
Before it fades.
Before it changes.

Rashes can look completely different an hour later. Having a clear, well-lit photo with a timestamp can be incredibly helpful if you end up at the GP, pharmacy or emergency department.

It gives health professionals a starting point, not just your very stressed description of “it was more red… and blotchy… and kind of everywhere.” It takes two seconds and it can make a big difference.

Save this one. It’s a quiet little hack most parents don’t think about until they wish they had.

Some of the most serious emergencies we attend don’t look like the movies.
They’re not dramatic.
They’re not loud.
They don’t give you much warning.

They’re quiet.

A child slipping under water without splashing.
A toddler choking without a sound.
A baby who’s just “a bit off” but getting worse.

These are the moments that first aid knowledge matters most.
When you know what’s normal… you recognise what isn’t.

Save this.
Share it with another parent.
And if you want to feel confident spotting the silent signs, we’ll teach you how.

Googled “First Aid Course” lately?

We don’t blame you if it left you more confused than confident.
So. Many. Options.
So how do you know what actually matters when choosing a course?

Here’s what we’d be thinking about 👇

✅ 1. What’s the purpose of the training?
Are you a parent wanting paediatric first aid? A professional upskilling for work?
Someone who wants to feel calm in a crisis?
Make sure the course is designed for the kind of emergencies you might face. Because generic won’t cut it.

✅ 2. Who’s teaching it?
Are they healthcare professionals who’ve actually worked in emergencies or just someone trained to train?
Our facilitators are paediatric nurses, paramedics, and first responders.
We don’t just teach this stuff. We live it.

✅ 3. Is the training hands-on or all talk?
Watching slides ≠ learning.
Look for a course that lets you practise CPR, choking response, bandaging, burn care and more, not just hear about it.
You don’t want to be googling in a real emergency.

✅ 4. What support is offered? Do they welcome questions? Do they get the reality of parenthood, workplaces and everything in between?
You want a team that’s not just qualified, but human.

At Emergcare, we’re about real-world. No fluff. No scary jargon. Just people who know what to do, and how to make sure you do too.
