They say it takes a village – and it really does.
Asking for help doesn’t mean you’re not coping. It means you’re human.

💛 Ask your partner to share the feeding routine. Nappy changes and burping can take time during feeding too.
💛 Say yes when someone offers to cook
💛 Let a friend hold your baby while you shower
💛 Reach out when you need to talk

Let’s normalise leaning on others. You deserve rest, support and connection.

From IVF to one very special boy 💫

Shalena and Tory feel blessed in more ways than one!

Their beautiful boy, Arlo Jude, was born on 8 April 2025 under the care of Dr Pip Costley from the Women's Obstetric & Gynaecology Specialists team. Now 6 months old, he’s a happy, easygoing little one and deeply loved.

Thank you for letting us share in this meaningful chapter.

Corrine travelled from Geelong to have her baby boy Henry at Frances Perry House under the care of Dr Faris Al-Shammaa. At 34 weeks, her care was transferred due to a placenta adhesion disorder and we’re so pleased to have supported her through the final stages of pregnancy and birth. 💙

The first few weeks after birth can feel like a blur of feeding, crying, and adjusting. Here’s what’s normal to expect:

🩸 Vaginal bleeding (lochia) that tapers over a few weeks
💧 Breast fullness or leaking as milk comes in
😢 Emotional ups and downs – especially in week one
😖 Afterpains or cramps
🤰 A postpartum belly – recovery takes time

Every body recovers differently. If something doesn’t feel right, check in with your GP or midwife. There’s no such thing as a silly question.

A birth plan is a helpful way to share your preferences for labour, birth, and after-birth care.

Here’s what you might want to include:
👥 Support people
💉 Pain relief options (e.g. gas, TENS, epidural)
🎶 Preferences for lights, sounds or scents
✂️ Your views on interventions (induction, forceps, emergency caesarean)
👶 Skin-to-skin, cord clamping or who cuts the cord
🍼 Feeding preferences – breast, bottle or mixed
🧘‍♀️ Any spiritual, cultural or personal requests

Your plan isn’t a contract – it’s a conversation starter. Your team will work with you to adjust as needed, with your safety and comfort at the centre.

Emma's trio of daughters 👧👧👧

Emma has welcomed all three of her baby girls at Frances Perry House — in 2021, 2022, and most recently in 2025 — with care from Dr Faris Al-Shammaa throughout each birth.

We’re so pleased to have supported Emma through this incredible journey and to have played a small part in her growing family’s story.

We know every parent’s journey is different.
That’s why we take the time to understand you, not just your pregnancy.

From your first antenatal appointment to the moment you meet your baby, our maternity care is designed around you.

We’ll ask what matters to you.
We’ll listen without judgement.
We’ll tailor care to your needs, whether you’re hoping for a calm birth or a planned caesarean.

Because this isn’t just any birth. It’s your birth.

While partners are welcome to stay overnight, toddlers and other children unfortunately cannot stay in the hospital with you.

However, your toddler is welcome to visit during visiting hours with a caregiver.

If bonding time with your toddler is important before heading home, our hotel stay option may be perfect for you!

At the InterContinental Rialto Hotel Melbourne, your toddler can stay overnight with you in your room. 🧡

(Transfers are usually Day 3 after a vaginal birth, or Day 4 after a caesarean.)

This beautiful artwork, commissioned by Frances Perry House, honours our First Nations People and their story of healing and caring for the people, land and waters of this beautiful place we call home. At its centre is a pregnant figure symbolising the shared journey into parenthood, linking generations past and future. The artwork reminds us all that parenthood is a communal experience, supported by family, community and care teams.

We're proud to celebrate legacy, resilience and the circle of life that connects us all.

Pictured left to right is our DCS Kate, Quality Coordinator Alex, CEO Kerry, and Birth Suite NUM Annie alongside the artwork.

After birth, your baby’s instincts are strong. If placed skin-to-skin, many newborns will naturally seek the breast and begin to feed in the first hour.

This first feed:
🤱 Helps regulate your baby’s temperature, heart rate and breathing
🌿 Encourages bonding and early milk supply
🍼 Supports a calm and confident start to breastfeeding

Your Ramsay midwife will support you with that very first feed. There’s no rush, just connection.
