The RMH Mental Health Service, in partnership with its Carer Lived Experience team, has developed the Support4Carers Pack - a digital resource that provides carers with access to support and information as they care for their loved ones.

This resource supports families, carers, and kin of individuals receiving mental health care at the RMH 🧠💙

The Support4Carers Pack is part of our commitment to making mental health care a collaborative space, empowering both patients and carers with the tools for self-agency and informed decision-making.

☀️ Hopping on an e-scooter might be convenient this summer, but emergency physician Dr Sarah Whitelaw is reminding everyone to ride responsibly.

That means:
- always wearing a helmet
- not speeding or riding dangerously
- not riding with drugs or alcohol in your system
- not having more than one person on a scooter

Take care out there and scoot safely!

Good morning Victoria, it’s set to hit over 40 degrees today! ☀️

Danielle (pictured middle), Acting Nurse Unit Manager for the RMH Emergency Department, says it's a good idea to “stay out of the heat” today.

“Don’t go out in the sun and don’t do vigorous exercise on hot days to avoid heat stroke,” she says.

Instead, Danielle suggests, treat yourself at a shopping centre or read some books in the library, where the aircon will keep you cool.

Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) Kelsey (right) says the early signs of heat-related illness include:

🥵 Thirst and dehydration
😵‍💫 Feeling lethargic and dizzy
🤕 Having headaches

“So start topping up your fluids as best you can at this point!" says Kelsey.

CNE Hannah added that “vomiting, feeling persistently nauseous or being unable to keep fluids down are recognised red flags for heat-related illness.”

That is when you should head to your local ED.

Hannah’s top tips for the heatwave are eating cold foods such as salads and avoiding using the oven, as it can heat up your house further.

Danielle also says it’s a “good idea to check in on your older neighbours, family, and friends.“

Stay safe everybody! The RMH ED is here if you need.

Our Spiritual and Pastoral Care team just turned 30! 🎊

❤️‍🩹 The team provides emotional and spiritual support to patients and families during illness, surgery and hospitalisation. Support may be shaped by formal religious belief and practice, or through culture, personal values, relationships and lived experience.

🕯️ Our Spiritual and Pastoral Care team comes from many walks of life, shaped by careers in art therapy, child and family services, law, midwifery, education, and even service in the Australian Defence Force.

Michelle, a Spiritual Care Practitioner, says “the most fulfilling part of my role is being alongside patients, hearing stories of resilience and vulnerability, and being inspired by the human spirit every day.”

No matter your faith or beliefs, RMH is here to support you, putting people first and leading with kindness.

Recently, Treaty was formally introduced in Victoria. We celebrated this milestone with the First Nations community and all Victorians - especially our staff, patients and consumers - following the passage of the historic Treaty Bill through the Victorian Parliament in November. We are deeply grateful for the leadership and advocacy of First Nations peoples that made this momentous outcome possible. 🖤💛❤️

The RMH has a longstanding commitment to and investment in First Nations health equity, recognising the current gaps in health outcomes. Treaty has the potential to significantly influence health services for First Nations people in Victoria.

"We are hopeful that the Treaty will help us tailor our health services even further, respecting the culture, priorities, and community contexts of First Nations people. This will result in more culturally safe services, easier access, and better health outcomes", says Candice McKenzie, Director of the RMH First Nations Health Unit.

Many health services, including our own RMH First Nations Health Unit, have dedicated teams to support First Nations patients and help inform culturally safe and equitable care. The commencement of the Treaty in Parliament is a hopeful sign of a future in which health disparities no longer put First Nations communities at a disadvantage.

From a duck-themed ward to photo walls of loved ones and elves galore, there's something joyful around every corner.

Take care, enjoy time with your loved ones and all the very best for 2026.
