October is Mental Health Month in Australia, and on 10 October we recognise World Mental Health Day ๐
At Arcare, connection sits at the heart of wellbeing. For many men, speaking openly about mental health can feel difficult. But a shared conversation can ease the weight of silence.
As one of our Arcare Castlemaine team members reflected, โSome of the men have lost their partners before coming here. Theyโve been through a lot, but being able to chat with others who understand really helps.โ
"We sit at the same table for meals and thatโs where we do most of our talking" Our residents remind us that healing often begins in the quiet moments of connection, friendship and care.
Come and spend the day with Libby at Arcare North Lakes ๐

Weโre back with another wholesome Star Awards nomination reaction ๐
Maria from Arcare Surrey Hills was deeply moved by the kind words written by residents and family members in her Star Clinician Award nomination.
At Arcare we celebrate the people who bring heart and care to our communities every day.
On World Gratitude Day we celebrate the many stories of gratitude across our Arcare communities.
This year we share the voices of Mariam and Nundinee from Arcare Burnside. With 16 and 19 years of service, they reflect on the bonds that make aged care feel like family.
๐ธ โI still think about the residents even when Iโm at home.โ Mariam
๐ โWeโre like family. The residents, we treat them like our family.โ Nundinee
At Arcare, weโre not afraid to ask the important questions, the ones that reveal the heart, compassion, and dedication of our team members.
This time, we asked our Arcare Parkwood team members: โWhat do you do when a resident no longer remembers you?โ ๐
Their answers are moving, honest, and full of kindness, showing the patience, empathy, and respect that guide everything they do in supporting our residents. ๐ธ
Itโs these meaningful conversations that remind us why relationship-first care matters most.
At Arcare, we believe in asking the important questions - the ones that spark honest conversations and help break down barriers.
This time, we turned to our team members and asked: โWhatโs something that frustrates you about how society sees aged care?โ
Their answers are eye-opening, heartfelt, and a reminder that aged care is about so much more than stereotypes. Itโs about community, dignity, compassion, and making every day meaningful. ๐
Stay tuned as we continue to share real voices, real stories, and real conversationsโone question at a time.

๐ฐ๏ธโจ "If you could go back to any age, what would it be?"
We asked our incredible 100+ year old residents from Arcare Parkwood, Morrie and Thelma, this very question โ and their answers were filled with charm, humour, and a touch of nostalgia. ๐ฌ๐
With over a century of life experience each, their reflections remind us to treasure every chapter, laugh often, and live fully at every age.

John, Russell and Graham Knowles met Ian Ball in the 1960s while sub-contracting together on church-funded retirement villages. In 1976 they built their first retirement village together, The Frankston Baptist Centre, on the outskirts of Frankston in Victoria. In 2007, their company, Australian Retirement Communities (ARC), was the largest private retirement village operator in Australia with 22 villages and 3000 + units across Victoria and Queensland.
ARCare was established as the aged care arm of ARC in 1997, building their first aged care residence in Reservoir, Victoria.
Co-located with ARCโs LaTrobe Retirement Village, ARCare Latrobe (now known as Arcare Reservoir) in Reservoir is a 58 bed low care residence. In 2007 ARC sold their retirement village portfolio to Stockland. From then on, ARCare became known as Arcare, and thus began a new era in aged care.
Arcare now own and operate 39 aged care residences across Melbourne, New South Wales and Queensland, and provide services in the home.
In 2015 our unique Dedicated Staff Assignment won a Federal Government Better Practice Award.
