Heartbeat of Football

Heartbeat of Football Promoting heart health through sport There is a tendency to focus on heart issues only after a tragedy, however Heartbeat of Football aims to change this.

In Australia, it is believed there have been 10 cases of heart-related deaths of amateur football players in the past two years, with the latest on a Sunday morning in January 2016. As ever-increasing members of the community see the benefits of, and enjoy taking part in, amateur sport, Heartbeat of Sport is proactive in both education to prevent heart-related events, and in procuring the necessar

y equipment (in the form of defibrillators) to help prevent deaths following on-field heart incidences.

In 2026, the campaign continues to grow as a powerful national movement, uniting sporting clubs and community groups around one simple but life-saving idea: awareness leads to action. Sign up today to support Aussie Hearts - https://makeitred.org/signup

Every year, thousands of Australians are impacted by sudden cardiac arrest—often without warning and often in community settings like local sports grounds. exists to change that. By turning clubs and communities “red” for heart health, the campaign sparks conversations, increases visibility, and most importantly, drives education around CPR and AED access.

What makes so impactful is its simplicity. A splash of red—on jerseys, socks, armbands, or social media—becomes a symbol of solidarity and a reminder that anyone, anywhere, can play a role in saving a life. It transforms game day into something bigger than sport; it becomes a platform for awareness, preparedness, and community connection.

For sporting clubs and community groups, signing up to in 2026 is more than just participation—it’s leadership. It shows a commitment to player welfare, to families on the sidelines, and to the broader community. It sends a clear message: “We are ready. We care. We take heart health seriously.”

And the ripple effect is real. One activation can lead to a new AED installed. One conversation can lead to someone learning CPR. One moment can save a life.

In 2026, isn’t just a campaign—it’s a movement every club and community group can be proud to stand behind.

It only takes minutes to register but it could save someone’s life.
The NSW Government is taking a major step toward improving community safety by supporting Heartbeat of Football’s new initiative to map and register AEDs across the state. Delivered in partnership with the NSW Office of Sport, this program ensures that life‐saving devices are no longer hidden, unknown, or unreachable when emergencies strike.

Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in sport — but survival rates skyrocket when defibrillation occurs within minutes. The challenge? Too many AEDs are in facilities but not on the map, leaving NSW Ambulance responders unaware of their location in critical moments.

Through this government-supported initiative, sporting clubs and organisations are being asked to register their AEDs so they can be added to the state-wide database used by emergency responders. With accurate AED mapping, responders can instantly direct bystanders to the nearest device, improving response times and saving more lives.

Every minute after sudden cardiac arrest reduces the chance of survival. But when an AED is used quickly, lives can be saved - and have been, time and time again.

This is why Heartbeat of Football Foundation is calling on all sporting clubs and community venues to register their AEDs and help build a reliable, accessible AED map for NSW Ambulance to use during emergencies. By updating your AED details, you’re empowering responders with the information they need to act fast - and that speed can mean the difference between life and death.

AED registration is about more than compliance - it’s about responsibility. It’s about stepping up as a club, as a community, and as a team.
𝗕𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆.

Put your AED on the map today - because a lifesaving device is only lifesaving if people can find it.
