Neurofeedback, a form of biofeedback that trains individuals to regulate their brainwave activity, is increasingly being explored as a therapeutic tool for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This non-invasive technique uses real-time displays of brain activity—typically via EEG—to help individuals recognize and alter abnormal patterns associated with symptoms of autism, such as difficulties in communication, attention regulation, and emotional control. Some studies suggest that neurofeedback can lead to improvements in attention, social interaction, and behavior regulation in individuals with ASD, particularly when combined with other therapies. While promising, the effectiveness of neurofeedback for autism remains an area of active research, and more large-scale, controlled studies are needed to establish its long-term benefits and standardize treatment protocols.

Many clients ask us, how do I tell if I'm suffering from anxiety, or just feeling fear?

Fear and anxiety are similar feelings, but there's a difference between them. Fear is a reaction to an immediate threat or danger, like being scared of a barking dog or a loud noise. It's a response to something happening right now. On the other hand, anxiety is more about worrying about the future or feeling like something bad is going to happen.

Thinking about Neurofeedback therapy?
Neurofeedback is a fascinating technique that involves training your brain to improve its performance and ability to focus on the right thing at the right time. Through sensors placed on your scalp, the neurofeedback system monitors your brainwave patterns and provides real-time feedback to you and your practioner. This information helps you learn how to adjust your brainwaves for better focus, relaxation, or other positive states. It's a bit like teaching your brain how to function in a way that will enhance your overall well-being. Many people find neurofeedback helpful for managing stress, improving attention, and even enhancing their sleep. It's actually like a gym for your brain, helping it become stronger and more balanced!

If you're interested in trying Neurofeedback, call us and make an appointment today. Also available to clients on the NDIS.

Aspects of Chronic Pain
- Pain and suffering are different things. Pain is a physical
sensation and suffering is a persons emotional response to it.

Our role is to assist an injured worker to avoid chronic pain developing into chronic suffering.

What is involved? Our treatment is based on a biopsychosocial model. It is a multimodal approach to management.
This means that many variables are addressed. Anatomic, physiologic, psychologic and social parameters are all involved.
-Biologically - pain is a constant signal that that requires constant attention, like an alarm that never goes off.
- Psychologically - this leads to anxiety, depression and feelings of abandonment and dispair.
- Behaviorally, there is withdrawal and isolation and loss of social attachments.
- Cognitively - constant ideation about inadequacy, inability to cope and futility.
- culturally there may me expectations about how one should deal with adversity and cope with distress.

These aspects and more are addressed in our treatment program.
