A critical voice is a very common and unnecessary process that people run in their minds. There are two factors to consider which greatly assist in being free from the negative side effects of having a critical voice.
1. The first is learning to 'turn down' the voice. Everybody holds the voice in their head in a certain space (inside the head, perhaps your left or right ear, from behind your head or in front of you or any pother space where people hold the voice) but few people focus or become consciously aware of where that space is. Once you identify the space you hold your critical voice you can move it - try shifting it now to your shoulder, then to your elbow, then to your wrist. Once you learn to do this strategically the voice will have a lowered impact.
This is a simple process you can do for yourself, with hypnosis you can greatly amplify this by also literally 'turning down' the volume of the voice and altering the tone of the voice in a way which benefits you positively.
2. The second factor (which builds on the first) is to learn to dissociate from the voice as a criticism and associate to it as information or a critique. The key question to ask oneself is 'How do I determine the difference between a self-criticism and a self-critique? In short, a criticism is destructive, a critique is constructive.
We know that what we focus on we amplify and through hypnosis, when we shift the focus on our internal voice as a critique which acts as information to benefit our lives - our mind becomes our ally.
Dissociation and association are cornerstones of clinical hypnosis and it is for these reasons that hypnosis is so effective at 're-framing' a critical voice. When combined with an effective psychotherapy, we have at our disposal the most effective form of organic change work available - facilitating how to learn to make your mind your ally.
