Do you think only children believe in fairy tales? Think again! A fairy tale is a deep, profound story that reaches the depths of our soul and lives with us always. Every culture has its own tales, leading to distinct archetypal heroes, yet ultimately, these are often the same fundamental characters in different guises.
⠀
Fairy tale therapy is an ancient form of healing. Shamans crafted tales for their people (sometimes evolving into myths) and used these very stories to heal. Today, psychology and coaching are rediscovering the power of fairy tales as a therapeutic tool.
⠀
Those raised in a particular culture often share common archetypal images. In Western culture, we have images of Sleeping Beauty or Snow White, of knights and dragons… And it's not uncommon for women to find themselves stuck in the role of Sleeping Beauty, waiting their whole lives for a charming prince to awaken them, while life simply passes them by.
⠀
And men? Men very often live in the archetype of the emotionally "frozen" ruler – think of an Ebenezer Scrooge before his transformation, or a formidable but joyless "Stone King." They possess intellect. They have immense potential. But their emotions are shut off. Decisions are delayed. Everything is under control, but there’s no real life flowing through them. They sit on a throne without a crown of joy or connection. The power is within, but it doesn't flow – because it's frozen.
