🌸 Postnatal physiotherapy check 🌸

A postnatal physiotherapy check at 6 weeks can be very beneficial in your birth recovery and identify any future risk factors for pelvic floor issues and guide your safe return to exercise.

The check up includes:

✔️ Comprehensive assessment of abdominals (e.g. core stability, diastasis re**us or DRAM)

✔️pelvic floor assessment (internal or via real-time ultrasound if preferred) if desired

✔️perineal or caesarean scar assessment/management

✔️screening for any bladder, bowel (e.g. incontinence, constipation) prolapse or s*xual issues;

✔️ assessment of any remaining or new musculoskeletal issues (e.g. pelvic girdle, lower back pain)

✔️ discuss your return to exercise goals

Based on your assessment findings and goals, your treatment can be started on the day and a tailored treatment program (including safe return to exercise) recommended.

Pregnancy related back and pelvic girdle pain can be caused by many factors and assessing the cause and behaviour of your individual pain is essential in advising if a pregnancy belt is worth the investment.

Your women’s and pelvic health physiotherapist can perform a detailed assessment to see if a pregnancy belt is right for you and offer an in-clinic brief trial of an appropriate type for you (if applicable) as there are so many options available. It is also important to remember that a belt is not a stand-alone treatment for back/pelvic girdle pain and a tailored, individual treatment approach is important for best results.

If you would like treatment for your back and pelvic girdle pain, book in for an antenatal assessment.

Do any of these triggers send you running to the loo urgently and sometimes leak along the way?

Running water, caffeine, alcohol, spicy food, cold/wet weather or putting your key in the front door are common triggers for urinary urgency and urge urinary incontinence in some people.

Targeted individual pelvic floor physiotherapy including bladder retraining can effectively treat this condition alone or in conjunction with medical management in some cases.
