Yoga and Pilates can be adapted for different people at different stages of life and who are experiencing different conditions. Over my 40 years of teaching wonderful students in a variety of urban, rural and remote settings I am still humbled by the positive effect of adapting practices combined with the often courageous endeavours of my students. Each student has their own body and story and method of working with yoga and Pilates to maximise its impact including some of my current students 🌸🩡🌸.

Time to create more inner and outer glow with our return on Saturday 19th July to a term of Winter Yoga and Pilates with the glimmer of Spring. Along with deeply calming and restorative mindful and relaxation practices our yoga postures are held a little longer to slowly develop inner and outer strength.
Meanwhile our Pilates and Arthritis classes will have fun with doing alphabet moves with weights and stretchy straps, along with building stability, mobility, balance and strength.

Pilates is different to many exercise regimes for its required precision and coordination of movement patterns whether for stability, mobility or strength while considering individual variations. This term we focussed on one of Pilates eight principles each week: Concentration, breathing, centering, control, precision, flowing movement and isolation. Paramount to this is establishing a routine. So, even though attendance may be limited to once a week, the continued practice creates great results along with the camaraderie and encouragement our small groups inevitably create. Many students are living their dreams now by travelling abroad or on the Mainland so vacancies exist for next term. All enquiries welcome.

Our Autumn yoga commenced with clear warm days and ends with clear cold days as is the nature of Autumn. Our autumn yoga postures help our bodies and minds adjust to the inevitable seasonal changes. The postures have focussed on the meridians of Lungs and Large Intestine to help to keep our breathing function healthy and help our body get rid of possible bugs as well as bringing awareness to our individual capabilities.

As usual we commence with mindful practices and breath techniques and end with deep relaxation. In combination with the yoga posture sequencing this will optimise immune function. As one of my new to yoga students said, she has never slept so well as she does after yoga.

As we move into winter and even shorter days and colder weather we change our focus to rest and restoration of our nervous system.

As always the connection we experience whether attending by Zoom or face to face continues to motivate us to attend no matter the comings and goings of our lives.

Beautiful Autumn weather for yoga, Pilates or weight bearing for arthritis and osteoporosis. Focussing on lung and large intestine meridians in yoga to keep healthy in changing weather, combined with mindful and relaxation practices for good immune health.

Pilates this term will continue to incorporate stability, strength and mobility focussing on abs and back while using the principles of Pilates such as concentration and alignment.

Our classes for osteoporosis and arthritis use body weight, stretchy straps, free weights, mobility and ofcourse our coordination with fun moves to keep our joints as well as they can be.

All classes are done at our own level with different options to cater for every body.

Our Summer yoga finally comes to and end as the hint of Autumn has finally arrived.As well as enhancing our immune systems we have increased our energy and opened the front body. Our hand positions (mudra) have been used to improve digestion and tummy strength (Rudra mudra) while creating an opening of the chest area and calmness (Hridaya/heart mudra).

Mindfulness and relaxation/meditation practices have helped develop our equanimity in life's many and varied situations by focussing on opposites, sensory awareness and for some mantra repetition.

Whatever our experience with yoga or physical capability there is a path for everyone to participate. Our small group sessions have ensured a friendly and safe environment. The sunny warmth of the past few months has also created a relaxed atmosphere. A lovely term of yoga to commence the year of the Snake: slow and steady.
