⭐️ Communication Development Pyramid ⭐️

We love showing parents this visual because it’s a clear and simple way to show how communication develops in children.

🩵 Preverbal and early interaction skills form the foundation of communication and include things like understanding cause and effect, joint attention and pointing.

💙 Attention and Listening skills refer to a child’s abilities to wait, anticipate and attend to and complete short tasks.

🩵 It is extremely important to develop a child’s range of play skills in order to support their language development.

💙 Receptive language refers to a child’s ability to understand language and vocabulary and follow instructions. Learning through play is the best way to learn!

🩵 Expressive language refers to the ability to use vocabulary and grammar and to formulate sentences.

💙 Social Communication and Pragmatic Skills relate to the use of language in social contexts, including body language, conversational skills, turn-taking and high-level language skills (e.g. perspective taking, inferencing)

🩵 Speech sounds refer to the ability to articulate sounds clearly and accurately to be heard by others.

Remember, early intervention is key! 🔑
