Patients often ask me what shoes are best for their feet. With so many brands and styles on the market it’s a daunting task to pick the right pair, especially when they’re not cheap to buy.
The answer is all in the fit. Here’s my tips to get the most from your shoe choices;
1. Get measured and fitted properly to know your size and width.
2. Try shoes on at the end of the day to allow for fluctuations in fluid retention in your feet, allowing a thumbs width from the end of your toe to the end of the shoe in length.
3. Choose the right shoe for the activity. For day to day around the home, I like a shoe that is lightweight, has a non slip sole and is supportive. Running or cross training shoes are a great choice and come in a variety of widths to fit most foot types well.
Today, I’m road-testing the new Brooks Glycerin GTS with ”Elevate” Lightfeet socks.
The socks are Australian made and owned, moisture wicking to keep your feet dry for longer. More on socks another day but if you’re in the market for new shoes or need advice on footwear fitting, book an appointment online today at www.feetretreatpodiatry.com.au
