The link between the gut and immune system often gets missed with autoimmune conditions.

That’s why we always go in depth about gastrointestinal health with all of our clients.

Studies have found that gut imbalance (dysbiosis) and a leaky gut are strongly linked to autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus.
👉 (see last slide for references)

When we focus on healing the gut lining, balancing the microbiome and reducing stress, we can bring the immune system back into balance and reduce the body’s “attack” response.

Simple ways to improve your gut health 🌟

Your gut isn’t only for digesting food, it influences your mood, energy, hormones and immune system.

Here are a few easy habits that make a big difference:
🥕 Eat a variety of colourful fruits and veggies to feed beneficial gut bacteria
💧 Stay hydrated to keep things moving smoothly
😌 Manage stress (your gut and brain are in constant communication)
🍽️ Slow down and chew your food well for better digestion
🌾 Choose whole, unprocessed foods to nourish your microbiome with real nutrients

Comment “GUT HEALTH” and we’ll send you a link to our blog post on how food affects the gut-brain axis.

In naturopathy, fennel is commonly used either as a food/tea or a herbal extract.

It’s a beautiful aromatic herb with yellow flowers.

The volatile oils relax smooth muscle of the intestines, which is why it is often used for digestive complaints.

People also use fennel for menstrual problems, to promote lactation, and to reduce anxiety and rheumatoid arthritis.

Tag someone who’s always gassy 😳🤣

“The Healing Power of Nature”

This principle is about the belief that your body has the innate ability to heal itself.

Corpus Hippocraticum said in 400BC that nature was the force to restore health and balance in humans.

We are nature as are plants and animals.

As naturopaths we don’t “fix” you, but we do help you to remove obstacles that block your body’s natural healing processes, and provide your body with the nourishment it needs to restore balance. That can be through rest, nutrition, movement, emotional balance or herbal preparations.

Sometimes it can look like supporting gut health, regulating hormones, or calming inflammation.
But always it begins with trusting your body’s wisdom. 🌿

Feeling bloated or uncomfortable after eating is a sign that your digestion is struggling.

Bitter herbs and foods like gentian, dandelion, rocket, and artichoke, help to “wake up” your digestive system.

“First, do no harm” the foundation of all true healthcare and the heart of naturopathy.

In naturopathy, this principle means:
• Using the least invasive, most natural options first.
• Teaching the patient how aspects of their life are interrelated and how they contribute to health.
• Weighing the risk/benefit of treatments especially in relation to interactions and the patients vitality.

Healing doesn’t have to be harsh.

Naturopaths respect the holistic nature and vitality of the patient, making sure they are supported.

💚 At Abundant Life & Health, this vital principle guides every consultation, treatment plan and recommendation we give.

Did you know stress can physically change your body?

When cortisol stays too high for too long, it can:
👉 Increase storage of belly fat
👉 Disrupt sleep (feeling wired but tired)
👉 Lower your immune system
👉 Affect digestion and gut health
👉 Contribute to hormone imbalances

Short bursts of cortisol are normal (and even protective), but chronic stress keeps your body in “fight or flight” mode and that’s when health issues start to build up.

💡 Naturopathy looks at ways to lower your stress hormones naturally — through diet, herbs, lifestyle, and supporting your nervous system so your body can return to balance.

🌿 If stress is taking a toll on your health, book in with our naturopaths to find your calm again.

MTHFR is a gene that we all have which helps your body to process folate (vitamin B9) into its active form.

If you carry a variant, your body may struggle with this process.

This can affect:
⚡️ Energy production
🧹 Detoxification
🌞 Mood
🌸 Hormone balance

Understanding your MTHFR status can guide your nutrition and lifestyle strategies, allowing you to feel more balanced and in control of your health.

Having an MTHFR variant doesn’t mean that something is “wrong” with you, it just means that your body may require a little extra support.

Our Naturopaths here at Abundant Life & Health have been guiding people with MTHFR variants towards better health and helping people to find the answers they deserve.

Echinacea is one of the most widely studied and popular herbs for immune support 🌸

But the Native Americans already knew this.

Modern research now shows that its benefits come from:

✨ Alkylamides — interact with cannabinoid receptors, regulating immune activity and lowering inflammation
✨ Polysaccharides & glycoproteins — helps destroy pathogens
✨ Chicoric acid — strong antioxidant

Our naturopaths and help you find which species of echinacea is best suited to you.

As always, this is for educational purposes only, it’s best to check with your healthcare provider before starting any new herbs.

Still feeling exhausted no matter how much sleep you get? Truth is that sometimes our daily habits are what quietly drain us.

What you do frequently becomes your frequency.

- Skipping meals means you won’t have enough energy to burn through the day
- Relying on coffee can drive you deeper into fatigue
- Too much screen time and blue light can mess with your circadian rhythm
- Ignoring stress means that your nervous system can’t relax

These small things add up leaving you with little fumes to run on.

If you’re doing all of these and still feeling exhausted, it may mean that there’s something deeper going on. As naturopaths we can help you to find the cause of what’s driving your fatigue.

DM us to find out how you can start feeling more awake, calm and balanced.
