The analysis highlighted the frequent use of auricular Shenmen (TF4) in treating depression, stress, and combined conditions, while Yintang (EX-HN3) and body acupoint Shenmen (HT7) were prominent for managing anxiety.

Auricular points played a central role in stress management, comprising 62.50 % of applications, while body acupoints like Taichong (LV3) and Zusanli (ST36) supported overall emotional balance and physical well-being.

The integration of auricular and body acupoints, combined with targeted meridians, provides a foundational framework for utilizing acupressure as a complementary therapy for depression, anxiety, and stress.

🤚🏼🧤❄️ • Chilblains & Raynaud's • 🤚🏼🧤❄️

During Winter we may easily experience chilblains. Itchy, red or purple swellings develop on fingers, toes, ears, or nose after exposure to cold. These can be annoying but are usually not serious.

🌀 Chilblains results from defective blood circulation on exposure to cold. The skin may first become itchy, then red and swollen with a burning sensation and very tender to touch. It is best to warm the area slowly with layers or gentle movement rather than direct heat. Don’t scratch: As tempting as it is, scratching can break the skin and lead to infection. Keep affected areas dry and change out of wet socks or gloves straightaway.

❄️ Chilblains vs Raynaud's 🤚🏼

🌀 Chilblains are more common in older people, but anyone can get them.
There can be a connection with Raynaud’s disease which is also related to circulation issues, but not the same. Both conditions occur after exposure to cold.

🌀 Raynaud’s is a condition in which the blood supply to the extremities, usually the fingers and toes is interrupted usually due to cold exposure, a change in temperature or stress. During an attack they first become white, they may then turn blue and finally bright red. There may be considerable pain, numbness or tingling. Women seem to be more affected and it has been suggested that oestrogen may play a role.

🎋💡Chinese Medicine attributes this condition to Stagnation of Qi and Blood in the channels due to invasion of Cold and Dampness.
Cinnamon & Chinese Angelica, Dang Gui are often used to nourish, warm & improve circulation.

Pears can support your health during the colder months in numerous ways:

● Moistens the Lungs: I have been seeing a lot of dry, lingering coughs in the clinic this season, & in Chinese Medicine, pears are valued for their ability to nourish & moisten the lungs. This means they are particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing dryness-related respiratory symptoms such as coughs or sore throats.

● Clears Heat: Pears are also believed to have a gently cooling effect on the body, making them useful in reducing heat in the body which can accumulate when an illness remains unresolved.

● Aids Digestion: The fiber content in pears supports digestive health by promoting bowel regularity & preventing constipation. The lung & large intestine are closely connected in Chinese medicine, & this fruit benefits both of these organs.

● Promotes Yin: Pears are classified as a yin-nourishing food, helping to balance the body's yin & yang energies. This is helpful in conditions where dryness is predominant - dry skin, dry cough, thirst etc.

🍐 Pears are great for our LUNG QI.
🍐 Support your Lung Qi in Winter & protect yourself against catching an unwanted chill or cold.
🍐 During cold & damp weather, have your food nice & warm (cooked), add some warming spices & drink warmer liquids. You can save the chilled foods & salad for those hot summer days.
🍐 A simple dessert or breakfast could be stewed or poached pears (add cinnamon/ginger or star anise - even all three topped with roasted walnuts. This is a much better option than yogurt or ice cream if you have a slight tickle in your throat, feeling a little phlegmy or want to support your Yang Qi.
🍐 Enjoy pears in your diet:
🍐 If you are prone to constipation.
🍐 Have concurrent constipation with a cold or flu (which tends to dry us out).
🍐 Have a dry cough or phlegm that is hard to cough up.
🍐 Dry skin.
🍐 Weak lungs ie. had asthma as a child & prone to coughs & colds during change in season.
🍐 Dry nose & throat. Ticklish or scratchy throat.

NB: avoid raw pears if you get loose movements / have diarrhoea. Have them cooked with warming spices like cinnamon.

⚡️..•~ Pain AND Emotions ~•..🥸

😥Many patients who come in with musculoskeletal problems will divulge a lot of information in their appointment about stress, anxiety or some general emotional unease.
. However, a lot don't.
… Some come just for pain.
…. They only speak of pain in straight facts.
… Nothing else.. And then they come in, brighter, taller & sparklier every visit to tell me that not only is their pain better.
🌏🤩 But their whole life is better 🤩🌏

🙌🏼⭐️ That's the holistic charm of Acupuncture ⭐️🙌🏼

…. 💡 In Chinese Medicine, each season is associated with an internal organ ….
…. ❄️☃️ Winter = the Kidneys 🫘

🏠 The Kidneys house our fundamental energy & are in charge of birth, growth, reproduction & development.

💙 A guiding principal in Chinese Medicine is that by living & harmonising yourself with the seasons, you are able to cultivate your health & prevent disease. Therefore winter is the perfect time to give your Kidneys some extra attention & love.

💭 Overworking the mind, body & spirit easily impacts the energy & functioning of the Kidney system. Now is the best time to say a polite no to any extra commitments & indulge in some relaxation & self-care. 🫶🏼

.•~ 🛌 Now is the time to REST 🛌 ~•.

🦶 As the Kidney channel begins at the soles of the feet, make sure you always keep them cosy and warm, so no walking barefoot on cold tiles.🙅🏼‍♀️

🧊 During the cooler months we don't want extra cold entering our bodies, so this means no icy cold drinks & no cold raw food.

🔥 Everything we consume needs to be warm, cooked & nourishing. Winter food is all about hearty soups & stews. The best ones for us during these months include sweet potatoes, squash, mushrooms, root vegetables & kidney beans.
