People First Therapy

People First Therapy We are a people-first in-home allied health team who believe your choices, needs, and goals come before all else.

We believe that your diagnosis, disability, or injury should not define you and as such shouldn’t entirely define your therapy.

✨ What a day at The Power of We Expo! ✨

The South West Sydney Disability and Lifestyle Expo brought together so many passionate people working toward the same goal — stronger, more connected communities for people with disabilities 💙💛

It was a privilege for the People First Therapy team to be part of this incredible event. From sharing our mobile therapy services to learning more about the amazing work of fellow providers, we walked away with full hearts and inspired minds.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared their stories, and connected with us. We loved being part of the energy, collaboration, and purpose behind this event!

Cerebral Palsy (CP) 🧠 affects a persons ability to move. In most cases it occurs during pregnancy or shortly after being born. It is permanent and a life-long condition that affects people in many ways.

The names of the most common types of CP help us know what characteristics a person diagnosed presents with:
Spastic (most common) - stiff and difficult movements with muscle spasms.
Dyskinetic - involuntary and uncontrolled movements
Ataxic - inability to control balance and coordination

Did you know that Physiotherapists play a big role in helping people with CP? ✨
We help with:
Mobility and motor control🚶🏼‍➡️
Strength and balance 💪🏽
Muscle management (tightness and contractures) 👐🏽
Improving quality of life ✨
Enhancing participation in the community 👩🏻‍🦽‍➡️

🧠 Balance, Movement & Neuroplasticity in Action 🚶‍♀️

Balance is your ability to control your centre of gravity within your base of support — and it plays a vital role in everyday movement, independence, and reducing the risk of falls.

✅ Training your balance not only helps prevent falls but also improves strength, builds confidence, and supports your overall physical function.

Shown here are a few simple exercises to help get you started:

Sit to Stands

Calf Raises

Marching on the Spot

At People First Therapy, we apply key principles of neuroplasticity to help maximise outcomes during therapy, including:

🔹 Specificity – Exercises are designed to closely resemble your goals and real-life tasks

🔁 Repetition – Structured, repeated practice to help rewire the brain and build new habits

🔥 Intensity – Programs are designed to challenge you at the right level to spark progress

Whether you're just starting out or working toward long-term independence, your therapy should work with your brain and your body — and we’re here to guide you every step of the way. 💛

🤝 Collaboration is better than competition! 🤝

When Allied Health providers come together with a shared focus — to improve therapy outcomes and empower the people we support — something powerful happens. ✨

These moments capture meaningful conversations, knowledge-sharing, and cross-sector teamwork with some incredible humans across the allied health space.

At People First Therapy, we believe putting people first means stepping beyond competition and working together to lift the standard of care for everyone. 💛💙

Thank you to those who continue to show that collaboration truly creates impact.
