What are you watching on Tuesday night and is it the only 'blood moon' visible from Australia in 2026?

The total lunar eclipse will be visible from every state and territory, but timing on the highly anticipated phase of totality (lasting 58 minutes) will depend on your time zone.

"It's only when you get near the time of totality that the rest of the moon that's visible will dim enough for you to see the red colour," Jonti Horner, a professor of astrophysics from the University of Southern Queensland, told SBS News.

Something of interest to our audience

HEADS UP: There will be a 'Planetary Alignment' on the 28th February. On February 28th, six planets are above the horizon after sunset. They don’t cluster in one place — they stretch across the sky. Start 30–60 minutes after local sunset: low west (Mercury, Venus, Saturn), then high southeast/east (Jupiter). Uranus and Neptune are faint and require binoculars, a zoom lens or a telescope.

When is the best time to see the planet parade in Australia?
For Australian viewers, the best chance to catch the planet parade will be around 30-60 minutes after sunset on February 28, weather permitting. Timing is crucial, as the alignment won't last long, and some planets will dip below the horizon quickly.

It won't occur again until 2034.

I've been quieter than usual on socials, but I haven't gone anywhere. A full couple of months. School holidays, parenting, caring, and the genuine pleasure of time with good witchy friends. Travelling to some, hosting others. Ritual, music, conversations that went long into the night. A slower start to the year than planned, but not a bad one. Behind the scenes I've been deep in the logistics of making things happen. A couple of venue options didn't pan out, so I've been recalibrating. Accessible, affordable space in Western Sydney is still the puzzle I'm working through. I'd rather get it right than rush something that doesn't sit well. Workshops will be on at Cauldron of Wellbeing, and rituals at other spaces & places are coming. Dates when I have them. Pic for the algorithm. More soon 😊

I’ve deleted a post that I shared last night from the US based ‘Seeking Witchcraft Podcast’ FB page. You can go there if you want to look and engage with the content. I deleted it for two reasons.

1. The imagery used in their post shows shadowy figures standing against a flaming background, might be misinterpreted as encouraging or inciting violence.
2. A commenter highlighted the problem that it creates a false debate over whether we should or shouldn’t witness the travesty that is unfolding in the US right now. They’re right. Not everyone has the capacity or desire to engage. They don’t think they should feel shamed over the desire to avoid the distress of exposure to trauma if it’s a survival mechanism.

Personally I don’t think it can be ignored. That’s the point of being able to exercise privilege around the capacity to engage.

And I’m sitting squarely in my privilege by sharing my view that I think that witchcraft *is* political, and magic is a tool for change. If you posses these skills, tools, and knowledge I suggest you leverage them and apply at Will.

Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki was one if the most prolific and influential occult figures of our times. Her book, ‘My First Book of Magic’ (written for tweens/children) is just delightful and one I recommend for Seekers of all ages.

The Servants of the Light school marks with deep respect and gratitude the passing of Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki, who served as Director of Studies from October 31st 1976, until her retirement on June 11th 2018.

Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki passed peacefully in the early hours of the morning on January 8th.

Born on June 11th 1929, on the Island of Jersey, she was raised within a family tradition of psychic and esoteric awareness, which shaped her early sensitivity to inner worlds and spiritual discipline.

Her formal involvement in the Western Mystery Tradition began in the 1960s through her work with the Society of the Inner Light, founded by Dion Fortune. There she met W. E. Butler and Gareth Knight, and later contributed to the development of the Helios Practical Course on the Mystical Qabalah, which evolved into the Servants of the Light School.

On October 31st 1976, following W. E. Butler’s retirement, Dolores was appointed Director of Studies of the Servants of the Light. For more than four decades, she acted as guardian, teacher, and interpreter of the School’s work, overseeing its teachings in Hermetic Qabalah, ritual practice, inner plane contact, and spiritual development.

Under her guidance, the School grew into an internationally respected centre for disciplined esoteric training, grounded in ethical responsibility and experiential depth. She retired as Director of Studies in 2018 but continued to teach and to write.

A prolific author, lecturer, and mentor, Dolores combined intellectual clarity, imagination, warmth, and humour, consistently encouraging students to cultivate discernment, integrity, and inner authority. She held the inner thread of the tradition with steadiness and care, insisting that magical work must serve consciousness and balance rather than personal ambition.

Dolores touched the lives of thousands of students with her unique magic and teaching, and we celebrate her life at this sad time.

The Servants of the Light school honours Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki for her lifelong dedication to the Work and gives thanks for the enduring legacy she leaves within the school and beyond.

Dolores is loved and remembered by many.

We extend our deepest condolences to Dolores' family at this time of grief. Her family have requested privacy and quiet at this time, so they will not be responding to messages.

May Dolores journey onward in Light and go forth shining!

Due to the extreme heat forecast for Western Sydney today (41°C+), including the possibility of evening storms, I’ve made the decision to cancel tonight’s Midsummer picnic at Tench Reserve in Penrith.

While sunset gatherings are usually beautiful, ground temperatures and humidity can remain high well into the evening on days like this. For an outdoor, drop-in picnic, these conditions present a real risk, particularly for children, animals, and anyone sensitive to heat.

Thank you for your understanding. We’ll look to reschedule a casual get-together in the new year when conditions are a little less brutal.
