For a long time, health funds have under valued and under funded women’s health care. It’s time for this to end. You can help put an end to this by signing the petition below.

RANZCOG and NASOG are calling on all Australians to support a petition urging the federal parliament to include obstetrics and gynaecology (O&G) services in the private health insurance risk equalisation system.

Risk equalisation ensures premiums remain fair by sharing costs across insurers for higher-risk patients. However, O&G services are currently excluded, meaning, in most cases, women must take out the most expensive “gold tier” policies to access essential care. This exclusion creates a structural inequity that disproportionately disadvantages women, reduces demand on the private system and contributes to the closure of private maternity units – essential for balancing system load – with 10 having shut in Australia since November 2023.

The exclusion of O&G services from risk equalisation undermines access, affordability and choice while also threatening the sustainability of both private and public healthcare.

Read more on the College's website, sign the petition and share within your network to support legislative change and end gender-based discrimination in private health insurance: https://www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/petition/EN7227

Great to see an increase in awareness for a condition which can be debilitating for so many. The new hospital in the home service will be a game changer for so many!

Today is World Hyperemesis Gravidarum Awareness Day.

Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is a severe form of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, which affects around 1 in every 100 pregnant women.

If you are pregnant and so sick that you are unable to keep food and drink down, you may have HG. It's a serious condition and you're not alone.

It's more than morning sickness and help is available. Speak to your midwife, obstetrician or GP, or visit health.nsw.gov.au/HG

The best part of my day is cuddles with the babies I have delivered at mum's 6 week postnatal visit. Luckily little Grace seemed equally content with my cuddles!
