HAPPY NEW YEAR
May 2023 be filled with love, prosperity, adventures and wellness.
Like most of us, I have started reviewing my New Years’ resolutions, a tradition I have participated in since I was young. Initially, I treated my new years’ resolutions like a wish list of ‘things to achieve’, and sometimes I achieved some things, most often, not. The same with my partner.
I did notice, when we worked on our resolutions together, we got better results.
In 2000, we decided to find a new home as our place was too small for our young kids, and we needed a granny flat as my mother was going to move in.
We looked everywhere for months, you know the drill; getting up early Saturday morning, organising the kids, making a schedule of the open houses, and toddling off to visit them. It was exhausting and disappointing, as all the places we saw with ‘granny flats’ were not better than a shoebox, or, the houses were way out of our price range.
So, I told my partner on New Year’s Eve of 200/1, let’s create and visualise our perfect home.
After the kids went to bed, we grabbed some nibbles, opened a bottle of champagne, got a pen and paper, and started. Like most, we started describing the basics, but the more we got into it, the clearer we got about our ideal home. That night we went to bed happy with our perfect home on paper.
A couple of months later, while I was getting the kids ready for their nap, my partner called out to me and said, “honey, I found a house and it sounds pretty good”. Since the kids were just put to bed, we decided I should go down and check out the house while my partner stayed with the kids.
I drove to a suburb which was the absolute furthest we wished to move from our beloved Marrickville, an inner-city suburb we had grown to love. I arrived at the place, which, from the outside, looked like a lovely Federation home but small. As I walked into the house, I automatically felt at home. The more I saw of the house, the more it ticked all the boxes. Needless to say, we purchased that home, and have been there ever since.
A few years later, while sorting through some boxes we had not unpacked, I discovered the journal we used to write our 2000/1 New Year's resolution, aka our ideal home and was *shocked*. When we bought our house, it just felt right, but it never occurred to me to check it against our perfect home, basically because I had forgotten all about it. Yet, our journal described the home we bought perfectly, from the number of rooms, the granny flat, the playing space for the kids, the school, parks and the street. Everything on our list was there.
I’ve known about the power of visualisation before and used it in various ways, but to be honest, I had not treated our New Years’ resolutions as a visualisation exercise before that. Since then, on New Years’ eve, we get together and paint a picture of what we want to achieve the following year. Over the years, we’ve achieved many things, such as backpacking parts of Europe and travelling around the world with the kids.
So, may I suggest, if you aren’t already, that you use this New Year as the ideal time to start creating the life you want: a health, joy, abundance, exciting adventures, new home, new job etc, etc. And if you are already doing this, please let me know about your successes. I love hearing about how other people create, it’s motivating and exciting 😊
Life is too short to waste – make the most of your 2023.
