The majority of my clients that have neck problems generally avoid using their neck to avoid pain, and more often than not they have no idea what to do about it.

Is this you❓

Long-term damage is common for the average office worker if they do not take a proactive approach to their sedentary work. ❌

If you have ever suffered from neck problems you may relate to this ( eg: text neck pain ) OR

❌You might wake up every morning with a sore neck,
❌ have neck pain throughout the day because of was sitting so much in front of your computer,
❌ or generally it may just feel very restricted when you turn your head between screens
❌stiffness from looking at the mobile device we can all relate to
❌ maybe restriction
When driving looking over your shoulder to turn.
❌pain after exercise

Not moving and avoiding using your neck is a protective pattern, more often most people don’t even realise they are doing it, it is the bodies natural way of protecting itself. 💙

In the case of exercising, a protective posture will only feed into the imbalance and cause more problems. ❌

It us only when you actually have to move that part of your body you feel its restricted , tightness or pain and is an indication that something must be done. 💪

BUT WHAT DO I DO ???

Well for one thing, ‘ use it, or lose it’ , something as simple as regular lateral neck stretching will help keep your neck mobilised and stretched. 🤩

And we MUST strengthen the cervical extensors (neck muscles at the back ) to correct the postural component of our body 💪

Healthy Office Bodies teaches easy mindful tools to keep you and your remote team stay healthy, productive and injury free in the workplace 👍

Let’s talk about how we can help with a custom designed wellbeing program to suit your business needs - call Sandra Leigh 0409 625131

3 important risk factors that will cost your business money 💰 when you and your team are working from home.

How long timewise do you spend overall in the course of your day in a seated position ?

1- DURATION ❌

Time actually spent seated in front of your computer. If you are working full time on a computer, this is generally between 6, 8 and 10 hours a day.

This is hugely problematic for overall health and well-being.

2- STATIC POSTURE ❌

How long do you spend in any one given static posture?

This basically means you are ‘ frozen ‘ into one position little or no movement at all.

3- IMPACT ❌

Impact drivers- how hard do you tap your keyboard?,

Are you aware of the pressure and potential injury that you are creating with too much impact ?

There is potential for painful, long-term damage to your fingers , hand , wrist forearm, elbow, shoulder, and neck. Ouch

All of these risk factors cause potential harm to your team and to your business.

If you would like to find out how delivering regular workstation, ergonomic, education and risk assessments will save your business from liability and improve the overall performance of your team, let’s talk!

Using a numerical keyboard, maybe be causing you neck or shoulder pain and long-term could cause you workplace injury.

Unless you need the numeric keyboard for your work EG: you are an accountant or some other mathematical role, it is best that you use a slimline compact keyboard with the numbers running at the top of the alphabet.

A compact keyboard reduces excessive movement in the outer arm and shoulder range that is known to cause painful injuries.

Even a small amount of discomfort caused by this excessive movement will impact your day-to-day work causing a loss of productivity.

Purchasing a chair to keep you safe from faulty and painful postures can be confusing if you don’t know what to look for.

In this video, I share with you some key features to look out for when you purchase an ergonomically sound office chair .

Please feel to reach out to me if you need further clarification on any of these features .

Personally for many years, I sat in very uncomfortable posture in my office chair because I did not know about the features and how to use them .

That is one thing to know about the features, it is also another thing to know about how to use them.

If your office chair is not set up correctly, it will cause faulty postures that lead to discomfort, pain, potential injury, poor health and serious lack of productivity caused by these problems.

If you are running a team of people that are all suffering from the same discomfort, then your business potentially is pouring money out the back door.

The profit loss is caused by presenteeism, absenteeism, and workplace injury caused by faulty workplace postures.

Education is key in terms of chair key features, how to use them and then how to ergonomically set the chair up correctly for maximisation of comfort, focus and energy throughout the day.

I am wondering, when was the last time you assessed and audited your teams workstations, ergonomics, and physical comfort ?

As I sit here typing this message, memories of the physical and emotional pain I experienced from sitting too long in my office chair flood my mind. I can't help but think of how much we underestimate the importance of physical activity in our daily lives.

We all get so consumed with our work and projects that we forget to take care of ourselves. We sit at our desks, hunched over our computers, for hours on end without taking a break. And before we know it, we're in pain, physically and mentally.

I remember how my injuries accelerated due to my sedentary lifestyle, and my mental health suffered terribly. I felt tired, lethargic, and completely drained of energy. It was a dark time for me.

But I discovered something that changed my life. I discovered the power of good habits and mindful movement and created the Healthy Office Bodies system of movement and wellbeing.

This program is designed to break our physical, emotional, and psychological state, re energize us, refocus us, and make us more productive.

And I want to invite you to experience it too, without any obligation. Join me on Thursday, 27 April, at 12:30 pm, and let's stand up and feel good together.

Let's take control of our lives, our health, and our productivity. Let's invest in ourselves and our teams. Let's prioritize our physical and emotional wellbeing.

Together, we can overcome the challenges of our sedentary lifestyle and feel more alive, more focused, and more productive.

So, please join me on Thursday, and let's make a positive change in our lives.
Sincerely,
Sandra Leigh - Founder/ Creator Healthy Office Bodies

When setting up an ergonomic workspace with two screens, there are several factors to consider to ensure that you're comfortable and productive:

In this video, I am only addressing one of the factors that is needed for safe screen ergonomics, and that is the physical positioning of them in the context of using one most of the time, more than the other.

Positioning: Position the two screens at a comfortable distance from your eyes, 1 arm’s length away is best practise. The top of the screens should be at or slightly below eye level to reduce neck strain.

If you have one that is the primary screen that you use ‘most ‘of the time, you will have this directly in front of your body and eye line and the 2nd screen just off to the side for easy reference.

If you have 2 screens that you use an even amount of time then you will have them evenly spaced to the right and left of your sitting / standing position with the screen join/split directly in front of the eyeline.

In this case, adjust the angle of each screen so that they are perpendicular to your line of sight. This reduces the need to tilt your head, which can lead to neck and shoulder pain.

Height: Make sure the screens are at the right height. The top of the screen should be at or slightly below eye level. If the screens are too high or too low, it can lead to neck and shoulder pain.

Size: It's important to choose two screens that are the same size and resolution. This makes it easier to work between the two screens without straining your eyes.

Overall, the best ergonomics for two screens involve positioning them at a comfortable distance and height, angling them to reduce neck strain.

Please feel free to contact us if you would like an ergonomics assessment or workshop for you and your team info@healthyofficebodies.com.au

9 more sick days in workers with chronic conditions or injuries. ‘ ❌

If you sit in an office chair all day with little movement , this is what the statistics are showing.

Sitting all day in an office chair accelerates chronic conditions or injuries ❌

Whether we are working in a remote office or a combined face-to-face office, we must find opportunities to break the pain state and move the body ✅

It’s also important that our workplaces support, healthy movement habits, which can be a huge challenge in a busy office environment ❌

To prevent overwhelm, workplaces can pick just one or two new strategies to focus on ✅

One simple thing you could do is place the communal photocopier in a position that people have to get up and walk to, such as placing it in that furtherest far corner of the room .✅

This simple action might not seem much, but if you use a photocopier 10 times a day , that is 10 times a day more than you were going to get up and walk without this ✅

Every single step counts towards a healthy, productive workplace ✅

Is Friday a day that you just can’t wait to finish? What about on a day to day level?

Do you hit that energy wall in the afternoon where you just struggle to get through?

The brain and physical drain effects every part of our working day. It affects our enthusiasm for our work and how we show up for our team members around this.

Clearing out the brain fog and bringing presence and energy to our physical and emotional body is easy when you know how.

A couple of easy tools to help you with this are :-

✔️ stand up and move on a more regular basis throughout your day, at least every 30 minutes.

✔️ incorporate moments of deep breathing practice throughout your day.

✔️ try what is called a ‘blast breath ‘ Where you completely fill up your lungs and blow out with full energy emptying your lungs.

This is best to do in a standing position, this blast breath breathing is very different to mindful breathing, and designed to bring instant energy to the body.

✔️ Eat regular snacks throughout your day, don’t wait for your brain to turn to mud because all of your brain sugars have been sucked out and into your computer

Well, it doesn’t actually get sucked into the computer but you know what I mean 🥑
