If you’re sensing a change in the air, in the weather, within yourself, here are 4 tips for Autumn to look after your mind health.

1. Observe not absorb.
It is challenging to not get involved in emotional situations when they are unfair, unfounded or confronting, to be witness to something but not carry it, to not absorb the other person’s heaviness, but to simply observe then let it go. Don’t carry what is not yours.

2. Acknowledge things that are hard.
My daughter is writing a song titled ‘these things are hard’. It’s a stunning reminder of the breadth of hard things that we face each day, and a beautiful reassurance that acknowledging things that are hard is brave and necessary. You can do hard things. They won’t always be so hard.

3. Nourish rather than punish.
When making choices, ask yourself what is the most nourishing choice. Ensure you are not punishing yourself by withholding rest or movement or healthy choices, but instead look for nourishment.

4. Respond with peace.
Choose to be led by peace, when making decisions, when responding to a situation or person, when deciding when to move. ‘Make decisions at the speed of peace’ is my current home screen on my phone, and it’s a lovely reminder to take my time, not be reactive, and choose to move in peace.

Being mindful and intentional in your thoughts, actions and decisions is such a game changer for wellness. How can you incorporate these prompts in this season?

Today is known as Australia Day. My family and I choose to call it what it should be known as Invasion Day.

I love Australia. I love our landscape, our beautiful coastline, our rugged bush land and deserts, our unique fauna and flora.

But I hate our history. I hate what was done to our precious Indigenous peoples. I despise what was done in the name of progress or white-man’s god, for nothing more than power, greed and conformity.

I will start today with an apology.

I am sorry.

For all the harms done
For that which was stolen
For those that were taken
For what was lost: land, lives, lifestyle, safety, freedoms
For discrimination and racism and every act of violence and fear against our Indigenous peoples.

I am also sorry for the ongoing torment, racism, mistreatment, misunderstanding, inequality, and what is still lost or being taken. I am open to hear, to learn, to be educated as to what I need to stop doing and what I need to start doing, to help, hear, and be part of healing not harming.

I am grateful to live in this beautiful land. I am grateful for those few who helped, saved, spoke up, and showed kindness and equality during those first days. And those who still do. I hope I am one who still does and always will.

So I choose to recognise today for what Australia means to me and my family, as we are grateful to be here, and to be working towards healing for those that were harmed. But I also acknowledge it should have and could have been done differently on that first day, invasion day, and I’m so sorry for that.

Let us re-introduce ourselves.
We are Grant and Sally (aka Harvs and Sal, the hippie therapist couple). 48 and 42. We have four kids (well, 2 are adults and 2 are teens), live on the Sunshine Coast QLD, have 2 golden retrievers, have been married for over 22 years, and have been running our mental health clinic: Reminded Health for 14 years.
We both completed Social Work at uni nearly 20 years ago(!) and went on to get our mental health psychological therapy qualifications.
We love the ocean, good coffee, being vegetarian, living sustainably, tattoos, dreads and piercings (Sal), staying fit, swimming, and spending time with our little tribe at our favourite place: our home.
We are passionate about healing minds, holistic wellness, and people finding freedom to create the life and relationships they want.
We walk what we talk, having each worked through trauma, tragedy and grief, and our little tribe bravely faces a range of challenges including anxiety, neurodivergence, depression, PTSD, and trauma.
We work individually with people of all ages (from kids to adults), offering in person counselling sessions at Peregian Beach, and Telehealth (phone or video), as well as working with couples, families, professionals, and offer group work, professional supervision, training and presentations. We also offer somatic (body) therapies, and are trained in PT/coaching (Harvs) and barre (Sal).
And for a little fun, Grant used to be a pastry chef and played basketball at a high level, and Sally used to have a florist shop and fitness studio, and is writing a book.

Our books for 2025 are filling fast, so please book online or send a dm or email and let’s work together on your mental health and holistic wellness goals this year (booking link in bio and on website).

Healing is possible.

Loving doing a fitness challenge recently! Adding a done-for-me Pilates/barre workout every morning after my 6km run has been so great (I usually do a 20-30 minute one myself after my run everyday anyway, but so nice not to have to think about my own workout and follow instead. 🔥5 more workouts in this challenge to go! (She has a 50% off yearly membership deal on at the moment if you’re keen, and a 7 day free trial).
And…. How great is the weather lately! Xx

The highest goal in life is a calm mind.

Calm.

Not void of thoughts or reality or concerns or emotion.
You will still have a response to things that happen. We are not robots.

Calm.

To have a solid foundation of truth to return to.
To come home to yourself and know it’s a safe place within you.
To not fear the content or runnings of your mind.
To understand your mind and know how to be the one making decisions.
To be calm more often than not, as a default setting.

It is possible and so rewarding to do the work to understand your own mind, learn how to process your emotions and be able to navigate your thoughts. That is when calm becomes the default.

If you’d like help with this, book a session. It’s our favourite work to do. Particularly after trauma, when things feel like they may never be calm again.
