“There is no freedom of choice or free will where there is only one way of acting. Learning makes it possible to have alternative ways of performing anything. The ability to learn is synonymous with free choice and free will”

Huh?? Felden- what??? And why???

Moshe Feldenkrais offered a new way of discovering ourselves through movement—one that is gentle, intelligent, and deeply human. Drawing on his knowledge as a scientist and engineer, he showed that real strength does not come from strain or effort, but from learning how to move with awareness and ease. True movement, he believed, should awaken energy rather than drain it, leaving us lighter, calmer, and more alive.

At the centre of this work is the nervous system—the hidden orchestra that shapes how we move, feel, and respond to life. When old habits soften, the body’s natural wisdom emerges. Movements grow smoother, breathing deepens, emotions find release, and the unity of body and mind becomes something we can feel in every step, every breath.

Lessons often begin on the ground, where gravity’s pull loosens and the body can rest into new possibilities. With small, playful explorations, joints free themselves, the breath opens, and the pelvis—the body’s centre of power—awakens as the quiet source of effortless strength.

Each lesson is a journey. A single theme is explored from many angles, gently repeated so that the body learns without strain. Sometimes one side of the body is freed first, revealing the contrast with the other. At other times, the imagination leads the way, proving that the mind’s images can transform the body’s reality.

Feldenkrais taught that every action is woven from four threads: movement, sensation, feeling, and thought. When these come together in harmony, we rediscover the joy of moving as nature intended—free, flowing, and whole.

New research suggests that parents should use sing-song speech, such as nursery rhymes, with their babies, as it aids language development.

A big thank you to all those of you who attended my Feldenkrais class today at Jenise’s beautiful The Kula Farm. It is such a pleasure to spend time with lovely, open-minded and flexible minds. I appreciate the time you dedicated to your learning, even when it proves a little challenging. Until the next time ✌️🙏❤️ [edit: I have recorded the lesson if anyone would like to have this resource for home use. It’s the same as being in the class as none of the movements are demonstrated. So it’s good for anyone. Just DM me. $10 for class participants, $20 for others]

Just received this email after giving a lesson yesterday:

Hello Mandy

Just wanted to share with you the joy of walking today.

My arms and legs felt nice and floppy, and my gaze was up (most of the time) and I noticed it was easier to walk and that the top front of my chest is more 'up and out ‘ and it feels like a hinge has been inserted somehow between my chest and my neck, so allowing my neck to be relaxed in supporting the head and my gaze seems easier.

It is also different walking up an incline and quite different in feeling to what I have done in the past and has lots of implications for how I push my feet against the ground and transfer the momentum and power in my body into effort or ease...but I just noted that and maybe we can work on that sometime.

I also noticed just how habitual the gaze down at my feet has become, and how much better I feel when it is not!

It is great that what I have learned has lasted, so I will see what happens with huge interest. 🙂
