Food: Different by Design was the theme of this year’s National Science Week. As a newly graduated Naturopath and Nutritionist I embraced the opportunity to share my passion for all the plant foods with my pre-primary class 🍎🍠🌽🥦🍇🧅🧄
First, we made rainbow fruit skewers, but the highlight of the day was our rainbow stir-fry! I was shocked by the number of kids who said they had never tried the 6 main ingredients… Red capsicum, carrot, corn, broccoli, purple cabbage and mushrooms... 😳then delighted to see EVERY SINGLE CHILD eat some of the stir-fry they had created!😋
This proves that the very best way to get your child trying new foods is to involve them in growing it, in buying it, in preparing it and serving it. Recently, the Australian Institute of Health & Welfare reported that just 2.5% of Australian children aged between 5-14 are eating the recommended intake of fruit and vegetables daily.
2.5%😲😲😲
We are the nutritional ‘gate-keepers’ in our little people’s lives and I believe it is our duty to model, support and encourage healthy eating habits. What are your best recipe ideas for getting fruits and vegetables into kids?
