Mental health and nutrition is a space that I love working in! I have experience working with people who have depression, anxiety, PTSD and schizophrenia. Through dietary support and intervention these people can really see a positive change in their quality of life. It would be great if Accredited Practising Dietitians were included in mental health care plans. Until then though, if you or someone you know would like help to improve your mental health through nutrition, please give me a call, 0402 457 474.

We know healthy food is good for our body, but evidence shows it's good for our mind too, and the peak body for dietetics in Australia wants nutrition help to be covered by Medicare in mental health plans.

The theme for Dietitians Week 2022 is , showcasing the numerous ways Dietitians improve the lives of those in our community. Since I became an Accredited Practising Dietitian, I’ve improved the lives of many across numerous settings. I’ve worked in remote communities with Aboriginal Health Centres, aged care, home visits and medical centres.

Why I love being an Accredited Practising Dietitian.

Food is our fuel. We all need to eat each day to survive and be healthy, but we also eat because food tastes good, to be social and for comfort. As a chef and dietitian, I truly love food and value the experiences we can have with food as well as how it can help us be healthy and perform in all areas of our life. I love seeing my clients achieving their health goals and improving their life through food. That could be losing weight, gaining weight, improving cholesterol, diabetes management blood pressure, mood, bowels and finding healthier ways to manage stress and pain. I love hearing the excitement in my clients’ voices and seeing it on their faces as they tell me about the progress they’ve made from implementing my recommendations and how this has improved their life. How they are now able to move around their house more easily, are motivated to cook or socialise after avoiding it or being able to leave the house without worrying about where the closest loo is, just to name a few.

I hope all my fellow Dietitians have had a fabulous week!

Physical and mental health are intertwined, so seeing a dietitian can improve your mood, as well as any lifestyle related health condition you may be experiencing. Eating well can improve your concentration, sleep, and stress management. A dietitian can help highlight the missing link.

Dietitians use evidence based approaches to help manage weight safely and effectively. From helping you set realistic goals, to supporting you to explore your relationship with food– a dietitian can help you build the confidence to live your best life.

Outside of work I love playing hockey and last night I played in the annual Bluebirds Battle. The Fremantle Cockburn top masters ladies V top senior ladies. The Bluebirds were the womens club prior to amalgamating with Frementle Magpies in the 90's. I love that hockey is a game you can play to have fun, be social and active from under 6's to over 60's. It was also nice to have some of the original Bluebirds on the sideline. Well done to the Bluebirds on the win. 🖤🤍💙🏑

PRESENTATION TIME. "Sugar." 🍭
Improving health outcomes is best achieved with a variety of approaches including both nutrition and exercise. I've worked with to help deliver evidenced based nutrition education for personal trainers who want to upskill in nutrition. To really improve the health of our community it's vital that allied health, medical and fitness professionals work together. We can achieve more with team work. 💪
