Our participants enjoyed learning about Mt Eliza's Water Reservoir today,, a critical component of Perth's water supply system, located in Kings Park and serving the CBD and western suburbs. Our guide Roz showcased her extensive knowledge, maintaining participant engagement as she elaborated on various aspects of the water supply scheme, which underwent significant upgrades in 2023 to replace aging infrastructure and enhance water delivery. Additionally, we examined various water-wise plants. The tour was followed by lunch at Blue Lotus Cafe, Stirling.

Discovery Tours - Water Ways program. Our participants appreciated learning about The Kent Street Weir, which was constructed to prevent saltwater from flowing upstream and to safeguard the freshwater flora and fauna. The tidal influence is halted by the weir, resulting in relatively fresh water upstream, particularly during winter months due to rainfall. The Kent Street Weir is an ideal location for walking or cycling, featuring a pedestrian crossing atop the concrete piles. Trishaw rides offer a unique perspective on the weir. Our riders, Adrian and Helen, were highly informative. A visit to the Cannington River Eco Education Centre was followed by a delightful lunch at Lo Quay Cafe, Wilson.

Our new Water Ways Discovery Tours commenced today and participants spent the day exploring The Mundaring Weir, completed in 1903, which forms the primary water supply for the Kalgoorlie goldfields via the Golden Pipeline. Situated in the Darling Scarp, this site is a popular tourist destination offering natural scenery, bushwalking, picnics, and the C.Y. O'Connor Museum, which details the brilliant yet tragic engineer behind this world-renowned engineering feat. The weir serves as a crucial reservoir, damming the Helena River to provide water supply for the Agricultural Water Supply Scheme. Despite the weather, everyone had an enjoyable time and were amazed by the magnitude of the weir, followed by lunch at the Colony Cafe in Midland.
