It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through 2025.

We've taken the time to reflect on what this year has brought so far - the new participants and support workers who've joined our team, the relationships we've built with other providers, and the meaningful growth we've witnessed across all our services.

What's happening at LPA

🟣 Teen Night Out has expanded!

We now offer two sessions a week for teenagers due to growing demand.
Tuesdays 5:30-8:30pm
Thursdays 5:30-8:30pm

🟢 Our Friday young adults program (18-25)

This group is going strong, providing meaningful social opportunities for individuals transitioning into adulthood.

It has been especially encouraging to see some of our Teen Night Out participants join our adults program this year.

👩‍🍳 Future Foodies: Teen Edition is booked out for Term 3!

The enthusiasm for this cooking-based social skills program has been amazing.
If you missed out this time, we recommend joining the waitlist early for Term 4 as spots go quickly.

There’s a fine line between doing things for someone, and enabling them to do things for themselves with the right support behind them.

When clients aren’t actively involved in decisions about their own care, goals, or routines, we risk taking away the very thing we’re supposed to be building: their independence, confidence, and control.

Saying you’re person-centred is easy. Actually doing person-centred work takes a different mindset.

Mental wellbeing isn’t just about reacting when things fall apart, it’s about daily habits that keep your mind steady and supported.

Here are 5 small things that make a big difference:

✅ Stay connected: message a mate, call family, say yes to that catch-up
😴 Sleep well: aim for 7–9 hours to let your body and mind recharge
🏃‍♂️ Move your body: even a short walk or stretch can help lift your mood
🗣️ Talk to someone: Just saying “I’m not doing great lately” is a strong start to allow your friends to support you.
🕒 Stick to a daily rhythm: regular wake times, meals, and routines bring stability which helps when motivation is low.

You don’t have to do it all. Start with one.

Social opportunities often decrease as teens transition into adulthood.

Many young people find themselves with fewer chances to connect, build friendships, or simply hang out with others their age.

That gap can lead to isolation, loss of confidence, and missed opportunities for personal growth.

That’s why programs like Adult Night Out exist: to create safe, supportive, and genuinely fun spaces for young adults to keep socialising, stay active in the community, and build real relationships.

Men’s Health Week (June 9–15)

Mental health challenges don’t always show up the way you expect.
Some men go quiet. Some get moody. Some just say, “I’m fine.”

Here are a few signs to look out for:
– Withdrawing from people
– Losing interest in what they once loved
– Sudden mood changes or irritability
– Sleep, appetite or energy shifts
– Constant exhaustion

If you notice it in someone you care about, don’t brush it off.
Check in. Reach out. Listen without fixing.

A great support worker brings a positive impact to your daily life. Here’s what sets them apart:

1. Reliable & consistent: You should be able to count on them to show up on time, commit to supporting you, and follow through with your care plan.

2. A good listener & communicator: They take the time to understand your needs, preferences, and goals, ensuring support that works for you.

3. Focused on your independence: They help you gain confidence and skills to do things yourself. Whether it’s mastering daily tasks or working toward long-term goals, they’re there to encourage your progress.

4. Someone you can trust: You should feel comfortable, respected, and heard. A good support worker values your choices, respects your boundaries, and supports you in a way that aligns with your lifestyle.

At Life Purpose Australia, we take time to match individuals with the right support worker because the right support can make all the difference.

🌬️Winter wellbeing tips to get you through the cold days

When the days get shorter and colder, it’s normal to feel a dip in energy or motivation.

Here are six things that can make a big difference this winter:

1. Stick to a regular sleep schedule
Try to wake up and go to bed around the same time every day even on weekends. It helps regulate your body clock, boost your mood, and reduce fatigue.

2. Get outside when you can
Natural light, even on cloudy days, supports your mental health. A short walk, time in the garden, or sitting in the sun can help lift your mood and energy.

3. Eat nourishing foods
Comfort food is great, but also aim for meals that fuel your body including fruits, veggies, protein, and enough water. Your body and mind are deeply connected.

4. Stay connected with others
Whether it’s a quick text, a call with family, or time with a support worker, staying in touch can break the cycle of isolation that winter sometimes brings.

5. Keep your mind and body occupied
Engage in activities that bring joy or structure such as puzzles, crafts, reading, cooking, and gentle movement.

6. Check in with yourself
Take a moment to ask: How am I really doing? It’s okay to slow down. And it’s always okay to ask for support. If you're a support worker or carer, remember to check in twice - the first answer isn’t always the full story.

7 tips for choosing the right support worker.

1. Before anything else, get clear on what kind of support is needed. This clarity helps you find someone with the right skills and personality.

2. Look for compatibility, not just qualifications
Skills matter, but so does the human connection. A great support worker is someone who gets your communication style, your routines, your values. That connection builds trust and comfort.

3. Don’t be afraid to ask if they’ve worked with people who have similar support goals or challenges. It helps to know they’ve been in similar situations and can respond calmly and confidently.

4. Clear, respectful communication is a must. A good support worker listens, explains things well, and includes you in decisions. If they’re hard to communicate with from the start, that’s a red flag.

5. Your support worker should be someone who is dependable, but also flexible when plans shift. Reliability builds consistency, which is essential for long-term progress.

6. If you're choosing a support worker for someone else, especially a child or loved one, involve them in the decision as much as possible. Their comfort and preference should be central to the process.

7. Trust Your Gut
If something feels off, it probably is. You’re inviting someone into your life or your loved one’s, so intuition matters just as much as the checklist. You should feel respected, heard, and safe.
