Last week, we were delighted to welcome representatives from Cancer Council Western Australia for Daffodil Day at our hospital. Thanks to the generosity of our community, nearly $2,000 was raised through the sale of fresh daffodils, teddy bears, and other merchandise - all supporting the Cancer Council’s vital work.

Our caregivers also joined in the spirit by dressing in bright yellow to mark the occasion! 💛🌼

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and showed their support.

🧡 LUNG CANCER RESEARCH 🧡: A global clinical trial for the most common type of lung cancer (non-small cell lung cancer) has now opened for registration in Perth.

Led locally by Subiaco Hospital Oncologist A/Prof Tim Clay, this important study offers new hope for patients facing a disease that is often diagnosed late and has a five-year survival rate of just 30%.

For long-time patient Deanne, the caregivers on our Cardiac Ward have become more like friends and family than hospital staff.

Over the years, she’s been cared for by the same familiar faces - celebrating milestones alongside them as they’ve welcomed babies, tied the knot, and now, farewelled a much-loved member of the team.

This week, Deanne said goodbye to Ward Manager Lisa, who has worked on Ward 41 for 20 years and is moving into a new role. To thank her for two decades of care, support and friendship, Deanne gifted Lisa a crystal angel pin as a token of gratitude and good luck for the next chapter.

Deanne shared that the team has been with her through all of life’s ups and downs, providing not only expert care but also comfort, reassurance, and support for both her and her husband. She said the familiarity of seeing the same faces over the years has always made her feel safe and cared for.

It’s stories like these that remind us how special the bonds between caregivers and patients can be. ❤

Support is delivered by our highly experienced and compassionate team of specialist lactation consultants through our Pregnancy, Baby and Beyond Clinic - located in Suite 320 of the Subiaco Medical Clinic.

We recently gathered to celebrate and farewell two of our incredible managers, Trudy Haddleton and Lisa DeLang, who are both embarking on the next stages of their careers.

Lisa has been a part of the Subi family for 20 years, sharing that what she will miss most is the culture here.

“The five values of St John of God have had such an influence on me and have made me the leader I am today,” said Lisa.

Trudy, who has been with us for nearly five years, said, “I will miss the people, the core values of SJOG, and the opportunities to learn and grow in a supported environment.”

Thank you, Lisa and Trudy, for your outstanding leadership and commitment to our hospital. You will be deeply missed, and we look forward to seeing all the amazing things you will accomplish in your new roles.

Almost 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85.

On Sunday morning, 14 of our brave Endoscopy nurses took the chilly plunge for the Daffodil Day Dip, raising over $7,200 so far to support Australians affected by cancer and fund life-saving research. ❄️🌼

Cancer touches the Endoscopy team daily in their work, making this cause especially close to their hearts. The cold was challenging but exhilarating and fun and every dollar raised makes a difference.

The hospital was awash with purple as we honoured the compassion, skill and dedication of our cancer nurses.

We're so excited to celebrate Neonatal Nurses Day today!

We want to give a huge shout-out to our incredible NICU team for their dedication, compassion, and hard work. They provide the highest level of care to our tiniest and most vulnerable patients, and we're so grateful for everything they do.

This year, the celebration is even more special as we also congratulate our NICU Clinical Educator Gabby Ozich, who was this morning announced as the winner of the 2025 Australian College of Neonatal Nurses (ACNN) Clinical Excellence Award. Gabby won this prestigious award for developing a well-designed education plan that has had a huge impact on our NICU Ward. We're so proud of her for this well-deserved recognition.

We’re thrilled to congratulate Specialist Gynaecologist Dr Jade Acton on becoming the first robotic benign gynaecologist in Western Australia! 👏

Dr Dean Conrad, a Gynaecologist and Advanced Minimally Invasive Pelvic Surgeon from New South Wales, recently proctored Dr Acton through her first robotic surgery cases. He described her as a “truly superb surgeon, who brings the rare combination of technical mastery and surgical humility, as well as a passion for advancing her knowledge”.

Dr Acton completed a prestigious two year fellowship with the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery Society, specialising in complex benign gynaecology and advanced laparoscopic surgery. 👩‍⚕️

This is an exciting era for gynaecology in WA, and we’re proud to have Dr Acton leading the way.

The future of robotic surgery has never looked brighter!
