Tomorrow, our Head of Cardiology Dr Paul Stobie will embark on a 700km bike ride from Albany to Perth, raising vital funds and awareness for the prevention of youth su***de and depression. 🚴‍♂️

Paul is participating in the Hawaiian Ride for Youth, an annual event which raises vital funds for Youth Focus, a not-for-profit group providing free mental health services to young people aged 12 to 25.

It’s his first time taking on the challenge, after six months of training. And while those 4.15am starts haven’t been easy, Dr Stobie says they’re nothing compared to what many young people and families face.

“As doctors, we see every day how closely physical and mental health are connected, and just how common mental health challenges are.”

“It’s especially important that young people know they’re not alone, that help is available, and there are people who care deeply about them.

Dr Stobie has already raised almost $60,000 and is hoping to go even further.

💬 And please join us in wishing him the very best for the ride. Your messages of support will help carry him all the way to Perth!

Our most recent Living the Values Award winner is the lovely Sandra 🥰

Sandra is a Registered Nurse (RN) on our orthopaedic ward and she has been recognised for embodying our Mission and Values 🙏

Her fellow caregivers described Sandra as someone who "consistently goes above and beyond for her patients. She delivers holistic care that prioritises dignity, compassion and understanding, while her warmth and humour help create a therapeutic and supportive environment."

Congratulations Sandra, we couldn't be prouder 💞

Five generations of remarkable women, now beautifully complete with the arrival of Subi baby, Claudia.

Born in early March, this little girl has brought five generations of the McCaugh family together 👩‍👩‍👧‍👧

Here’s Claudia with her mother Aimee (2000), grandmother Jodie (1978), great grandmother Wilhelmina (1955), and great great grandmother Rosina (1931).

We are proud to announce that our New Clinical Building has been assessed by Green Building Council of Australia and is on track to receive a 5 Star Green Star Buildings rating, representing Australian excellence in better, healthier, and more responsible buildings.

This rating recognises our commitment to high-performance, sustainable infrastructure that prioritises the health and wellbeing of our patients, caregivers, and the community.

As part of our Stage Three redevelopment, this six-storey building is designed to meet the evolving needs of our hospital community through:
🦴 An expanded orthopaedic surgical area
🫀 Dedicated Heart Centre (with philanthropic support)
👨🏻‍⚕️ New operating theatres and a 30 bed Day of Surgery Admissions
⛪ A new Chapel and end-of-trip facilities

By combining the latest technology with environmentally responsible design, we are ensuring our hospital remains at the forefront of healthcare excellence for years to come.

Congratulations to our Redevelopment team and our project partners Stantec, Silver Thomas Hanley and Multiplex Construction on this outstanding achievement.

Stage Three construction is set to start in early 2026, with completion expected in 2029.

We are constantly inspired by the people we care for, and Jacob Usher's story is a beautiful reminder of how shared experiences can turn into a source of comfort for others.

While undergoing treatment for Stage 4 bowel cancer at our hospital, Jacob found himself moved by the stories of the young families - parents just beginning the same daunting journey.

Inspired to help them find the words, he wrote "Hope Avenue." Through the eyes of two children, Isla and Max, the book gently explores the complex emotions of a parent’s diagnosis, highlighting the importance and power of family and love.

The idea for the book sparked during Jacob’s early rounds of chemotherapy. While managing the side effects of treatment, his mind was racing with ideas, and he felt a deep calling to help other young parents navigating similar journeys. ❤

Today we celebrated St John of God Day at our hospital. We shared mass, recognised our Pomegranate and Wexford Award winners and enjoyed a delicious paella lunch in honour of the feast day of Saint John of God 🧡

As we reflect on Saint John of God's call to “do all the good works that you can," we are reminded that every good work is connected. Thank you to our caregivers who consistently demonstrate compassionate, connected care 💞

Congratulations to all those who were recognised and a special thank you to Chair of the St John of God Health Care Board, Hon Kerry Sanderson AC CVO, for joining us on this special day!

Did you know that women make up almost 80% of our workforce here at Subi? 💗

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, compassion and leadership of the incredible women in our hospital community. Through their care, expertise and generosity, they support our patients, uplift each other and inspire the next generation of health care professionals.

We recently honoured the accomplishments of our mid-year 2024 and February 2025 graduate nurses and midwives from our hospital at our Nursing Graduation Ceremony 🎓🤍

As part of the St John of God Health Care National Graduate Ceremony, Chief Nursing Officer Janet Jones reminded graduates that nursing and midwifery are more than careers – they are true callings.

“As nurses and midwives, we bring together our minds, our hands, and our hearts,” she said. “Our work is both a science and an art – requiring skill and critical thinking, alongside empathy, compassion, and human connection."

One of our Subi stars was even recognised across the entire organisation with the Excellence in Education Award. Congratulations to Clinical Educator, Eloise Ashman. We couldn't be prouder! 🌟📜

Today is International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Day, and we’re shouting out the incredible team at our hospital. 📣

Whether they're leading our antenatal or postnatal classes, meeting 1-on-1 at our Pregnancy, Baby & Beyond Clinic, or helping our maternity patients on the ward, our Lactation Consultants are always ready with expert guidance for our new parents. You’ll even find them offering ongoing support at our Subi Babies parent education group!

To keep providing the very best care, four of our lactation consultants spent last week learning from international experts at a leading breastfeeding conference.

We’re so lucky to have your expertise. ❤️
