Addressing obesity presents significant challenges due to various obstacles. The high cost, limited availability, and lack of comprehensive support for GLP-1 medications, along with insurance-related complications and extended waiting periods for bariatric surgery, hinder effective treatment. Achieving meaningful progress requires acknowledging these barriers and striving to ensure accessible, sustainable care for all individuals affected by obesity.

Did you know?
Bariatric surgery delivers more lasting results than GLP-1 drugs. While GLP-1s can help with 15–21% weight loss in trials, surgery offers sustained weight loss of 25–30% or more for over 10 years.
But it’s not just the numbers; surgery also improves metabolism, resolves more health conditions, and enhances quality of life in the long run.
Weight loss is one thing. Sustained transformation is another.

Quick fact: Bariatric surgery > GLP-1 drugs when it comes to long-term results.
GLP-1: 15–21% weight loss (often less in reality)
Surgery: 25–30%+ weight loss sustained for 10+ years
Beyond the scale—it brings metabolic health, freedom from comorbidities, and a better quality of life.
It’s not just about losing weight. It’s about keeping it off.

GLP-1 drugs are not the ideal solution they are often portrayed to be. The side effects and health risks associated with these medications can be more detrimental than the advantages they offer. The rapid progress observed initially may lead to significant health issues in the future. It is important to consider that the proposed solution may, in fact, contribute to the problem.

GLP-1 drugs may be marketed as a weight loss solution, but the reality tells a different story. More than half stop within a year, and nearly half the weight comes back once treatment ends. Add to that high costs, side effects, and no subsidy support.. and the challenges become clear. It’s time we looked at the bigger picture.
