🌟 Participant Spotlight: Poppy 🌟

Poppy has been with Skout Care for over a year now, and in that time, she has been nothing short of extraordinary. An energetic, adventurous, and kind-hearted soul, Poppy has inspired our team in more ways than one — constantly offering suggestions, asking questions, and never being afraid to speak up for herself.

She brings that same spirit to her work at Good Sammy’s, where she’s known for her punctuality, consistency, and can-do attitude. Poppy reminds us that giving back to the community comes in many beautiful forms, and we admire her deeply for the way she shows up every single day.

This week, we visited Poppy and her incredible support worker, Errin. With a background as a teacher’s assistant in local schools, Errin brings a wealth of experience, compassion, and creativity to her role. Since joining Skout Care, she’s taken huge strides to build a meaningful relationship with Poppy — helping her navigate life’s ups and downs, and celebrating her wins along the way.

💛 Today, we celebrate both Poppy and Errin — two individuals who show us what it means to grow together, uplift each other, and make a lasting impact in our community.

Today we joined Ezra and Ahmed on a shopping trip... 🛒🧃🍪

What may seem like a simple outing was actually a hands-on learning experience as part of Skout Care's Skill Bridge Program! The goal? Pick up some snacks and essentials — but also build on his financial literacy skills.

Before the trip, Ezra created a personalised shopping list with photo references of each item. This list was neatly filed into his folder and used as a guide while he shopped within his set weekly budget. 💰✅

Once the items were selected, the next step was identifying which purchases belonged in which category of his "Money Book" — helping him track his spending, understand needs vs wants, and take more ownership of his financial choices.

These practical steps are about more than just shopping — they’re about building confidence, independence, and real-world life skills. Well done, Ezra! 🙌

🎳 April Group Fun: Bowling Day! 🎳

In April, we hit the lanes for our monthly group event — and what a STRIKE of a day it was! From friendly competition to lots of laughs, it was amazing to see our participants connecting, supporting each other, and having a great time.

Big thanks to our support team for keeping the good vibes rolling and to everyone who joined in. We love creating inclusive, social spaces where everyone feels welcome.

Skout Care will be at Super Bowl Melville on Thursday 1st of May as part of our fortnightly Group Events.

These Group events are a fun way to spend the night while getting to know other people of similar interests and backgrounds.

While these events are free for Skout Care participants, the $10 per game charged by Super Bowl will stand for anyone looking to join us for the night (with a free drink on us!)

🎉 Congratulations to Hayden for successfully completing an insightful observation session at Challenger StreetWear as part of the SkoutCare Employability Program! 🛍️👕

Hayden was able to learn and observe from a retail store manager about what the job entails and what it takes to be successful in this field. 🏆👔

From these sessions, we hope to give individuals a look into the world of work and break the barriers of anxiousness and lack of confidence. 💪🌟

A beautiful (and slightly windy) trip down south to Albany for both Jake and Phil. 🚗💨 Was a great time to bond with the team while taking in stunning views! 🏞️

Paired with some exciting times on two very 'lanes', with Jake smashing the record electric go-karting times at Hi Voltage Entertainment who we have great appreciation for! 🏎️🔥

We believe that every child deserves the best support on their journey to growth. Autism spectrum disorders bring diverse challenges, making tailored solutions crucial. Recent UK research suggests that early interventions in language and communication development can have a significant impact, and here's where video games come into play.

🎮 The Research: A recent review conducted by Jiménez-Muñoz (2021) delved into the potential of game-based interventions for children with autism, and the findings are truly encouraging! 🌟

📚 Key Findings:

Analysis of 24 studies with a focus on cognitive, physical, social, and neurofeedback training through video games.
Most studies support the use of video games, each targeting specific skill areas.
Cognitive training games improved reading, maths, concentration, and academic performance.
