Our Story
From our very first experiences with yoga, both of us knew that this would be an important aspect of our lives. The ability to tune in to the felt sensations, to slow the busy mind, and to explore movement in subtle and interesting ways intrigued us. For many years our meditation practice was central, along with attending regular yoga classes, and developing our skills through education and training in naturopathy and yoga teaching (Chandrika), massage, caring, social work and counselling (Satyam). As we have matured into our 40’s we’ve both achieved plenty of our career goals; being able to work in cancer and palliative care settings, Masters degrees in our respective fields, and now Chandrika is embarking on her PhD in integrative oncology. What we have come to understand is just how important keeping mentally and physically active, strong, and supple is in order to live out our dreams. The emphasis in our practices has gradually shifted to what we feel is ‘intelligent asana’, a mindful approach to moving and being. There’s room for many different approaches to yoga to suit different people during different phases of life. We hope that our small studio (max 10 students) is an inviting space where we can offer you the tools of yoga and support you to find the yoga that works for you. Each week during term time we have 5 classes on the schedule - dynamic vinyasa on Monday nights and Saturday mornings, meditative yin on Tuesday nights, therapeutic hatha on Wednesday evenings - ideal if you’re dealing with challenges on any level, and women’s wellness hatha on Thursday evenings to honour the particular phases of women’s lives including pre and post natal care.
