Earlier this month, our Ear Science Healthy Hearing Outback Program hosted the Kunyjunyu Kurlka (Healthy Ears) event at the Jigalong Youth Centre. πŸ‘‚

A huge thank you to Mineral Resources for generously supporting the day with a delicious BBQ, cooked up by the amazing Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service Tackling Indigenous Smoking team, and our wonderful Community Liaison Officer, Revina! πŸ’™ We were also joined by Bec from the MinRes Health Centre team who helped make the afternoon a success. The kids loved playing 'Pin the Kurlka on the Bilby', and we all enjoyed connecting with the Jigalong community outside of our usual clinic setting.

Events like these are all about coming together, having fun, building connections and raising awareness for strong ear and hearing health across the communities we serve.

πŸ‘‚βœ¨ Ear Health Forum 2025 ✨

Earlier this month, PAMS was proud to take part in the WA Ear and Hearing Health Forum in Perth, supported by BHP and the Ear Science Institute Australia.

The forum was all about coming together to share knowledge and ideas on how we can improve ear health for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families. It was a safe and supportive space where community voices and experts worked side by side.

We are especially proud of our Director of Clinical Services, Christina Hunn, who spoke alongside Ear Science, sharing important stories and experiences from the Pilbara.

A big thank you to BHP and Ear Science Institute Australia for supporting this work and standing with our communities to help close the gap in hearing health. The connections made and knowledge shared will help us keep building better outcomes for our kids β€” supporting their learning, growth and wellbeing. πŸ’›

This week marks 20 years since our Patron, Professor Barry Marshall AC, received the Nobel Prize for his groundbreaking work with Robin Warren, discovering the bacterial cause of peptic ulcers β€” a discovery that transformed global health.

At celebrations hosted by UWA, Prof. Marshall swapped the lab for the stage, picking up a guitar to mark this incredible milestone in true rockstar fashion 🎸

We are proud to have Prof. Marshall as Patron of Ear Science Institute Australia, where his passion for science and innovation continues to inspire our vision β€” to make a difference through the gift of hearing. πŸ’™πŸ‘‚

You were amazing, Koby! πŸ₯Ό

Continuing our celebration of young minds taking part in our Healthy Hearing Outback program in the remote East Pilbara for NAIDOC Week, we wanted to introduce Koby. Driven by building his understanding of ear health and helping his fellow students from Jigalong Remote Community School, Koby found his time with us to be extremely rewarding. πŸ‘‚

We loved working with you, Mahalia! πŸ‘‚

In acknowledgement of NAIDOC Week and this year’s theme of The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, we wanted to celebrate the bright young minds taking part in our Healthy Hearing Outback program in the remote East Pilbara. πŸ”¬ Mahalia was one of our work experience students from Jigalong Remote Community School, and she left feeling inspired to explore the possibility of a career in healthcare.

πŸŽ‰ Congratulations to Dr Pramod Dorishetty! πŸŽ‰

Dr Dorishetty has been awarded an Innovation Fellowship by the Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund, supported by the Western Australian Department of Health, for his research on the fabrication of silk-based wound packing materials for ENT applications. πŸ§΅πŸ‘‚

His project aims to develop a natural, non-invasive silk treatment for chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM)β€”a condition that can cause hearing loss and is especially prevalent in remote and Aboriginal communities.

πŸ’¬ β€œThis funding will enable us to bring healthcare to remote locations and reduce hearing loss by targeting chronic suppurative otitis media at its early onset.” – Dr Dorishetty
