The quiet pull of green spaces.
In this post, I explore how nature-based therapy taps into our deep-rooted connection with the natural world, a concept known as biophilia, and why that connection is vital in times of personal and planetary stress.
Discover how time in nature supports mental health, emotional resilience, and meaningful action in the face of climate distress and eco-anxiety.

I’ve put together three creative wellbeing guides this year and thought it was time to gather them in one place so they’re easy to find and share.
Walk & Reflect
Art Journaling
Yoga for Wellbeing
Each one offers a simple, no-cost way to pause, reconnect, and support your emotional wellbeing especially at a time when the rising cost of living can make it harder to prioritise self-care.
Explore a growing collection of free wellbeing resources designed to support emotional clarity, creative expression, and nervous system regulation. Whether you’re seeking calm, reflection, or movement, these psychology-informed tools can be used at your own pace.

After a few weeks of behind-the-scenes tinkering, both of my websites have had a refresh.
My psychology site https://michellesaleeba.com has new blog posts up, on creative self-care, walk-and-talk therapy and the ways we navigate complexity and change. If you’re interested in reflective practice, workplace wellbeing, or creative approaches to mental health, you might find something that resonates.
My art site https://michellesaleeba.art is now live too. It’s where I’m sharing my visual art alongside the creative work I do in health, education, and organisational settings.
I also use art in my psychology and in the facilitation work I do with teams and organisations in the belief that creative expression is fundamentally good for us. It creates space for reflection, connection, and emotional clarity, whether that’s in therapy, in teams, or in broader systems.
These two threads of my work are different, but closely linked and I’m glad to be sharing more of both.

I spent a fun few hours on Friday morning learning something completely new — wet felting! Guided by talented Perth artists Susan Sheppard and , I managed to make a little hat from scratch for my adorable granddaughter.
Rookie error: I shrunk it down too far during the felting process… so it now sits perched on top of a very dapper gingerbread teddy bear!
Susan is curating the fundraising exhibition for OCD WA this October. Opening night is 21st October, so pop it in your diary! It’s art for a deeply worthwhile cause, featuring work from a selection of wonderful Perth artists, including Sue and Vicki.
Can’t wait to share more as we get closer to the exhibition.
It brings together paintings and drawings, old and new, exploring landscape, memory, and place, as well as a glimpse into my community-based creative projects over the years.
Have a look around, I’m glad to finally share it.

Ever noticed how some of your best conversations happen while walking? There’s a reason for that, and it’s more than just getting fresh air.
Our ancestors didn’t sit still to resolve conflict. They walked. Often with elders, often through the bush or along a path, because walking changed how they related to each other.
Science now tells us what they intuitively knew:
• Walking helps regulate the nervous system
• It shifts how we process emotion
• And it literally changes how we remember the conversation
You don’t always need to talk about the problem. Sometimes just noticing a bird, a tree, or the changing light can bring you back into connection.
Walk together, heal together. Your nervous system will thank you.
👉 If you're curious about walk-and-talk therapy, I offer outdoor sessions as part of my practice in Subiaco. It’s a gentle, embodied way to explore what matters, and reconnect with yourself along the way.

The olive branch was chosen as our symbol to remind you of peace, growth, and the strength found in stillness. A gesture of welcome, and a quiet invitation to return to yourself.
Not everything needs to be sorted the moment it lands. Some things just need time and tide.
Enjoy your weekend

In a time of big, digital-first mental health services, something important can get lost: you.
At MSP, we’re a small-by-design, independent psychology practice. That means we set our own pace—so we can offer care that’s consistent, thoughtful, and never rushed.
If you're looking for a grounded, personal approach to therapy, we’re now accepting referrals.
Sessions are available in Subiaco, via Telehealth Australia-wide, or outdoors as walk and talk therapy.
MSP is a small-by-design, private psychology practice offering personalised, person-centred care.
Support is available for privately paying clients, those with private health cover, Medicare rebates, DVA, and a range of insurance schemes.
Sessions are offered face-to-face in Subiaco, via Telehealth across Australia, or as walk and talk therapy, for those who find movement and fresh air helpful in the therapeutic process.
Because sessions happen in public spaces, it’s natural to wonder how privacy is managed in Walk and Talk Therapy.
Before starting, I offer a brief phone or Zoom call to see if Walk and Talk is a good fit. We’ll chat through the added considerations, and you’ll receive a specific Walk and Talk confidentiality and consent agreement, so you know what to expect and what the limitations are.
While complete privacy can’t be guaranteed, we do have a choice of routes, some quieter than others, and we can talk about how to manage any unplanned encounters or interruptions.
Walk and Talk isn’t right for everyone, and you’re always welcome to switch to in-room or Telehealth sessions at any point.
If you're curious, reach out. I’m happy to talk it through.

I have facilitated creative wellbeing programmes for over 15 years. After experiencing post natal anxiety and depression I developed my expressive art journaling programme as the group therapy I would have liked to have done! Having experienced the gentle and empowering healing effects that incorporating creative self expression into my therapeutic processes afforded me I wanted to share with others, so I worked backwards studying art therapy, counselling and psychology. I have never lost the joy I first experienced sharing this programme and witnessing people’s tentative first encounters with creative self expression burgeoning into self directed ongoing creative engagement and practice.
“At the intersection where your gifts, talents, and abilities meet a human need; therein you will discover your purpose.” -Aristotle
“….before you could ever read a letter or write a word, you saw the world around you, dreamed and scribbled colourful images on paper…”
Art journaling is a practice of self discovery, relaxation and a method for enhancing creativity. Journaling combines a variety of visual art techniques and mediums such as paint, collage, found objects and creative writing as a tool to tap into the emotional landscapes that are tied to our memories and imagination. These landscapes, transferred creatively onto the journal page can then be used to explore and reflect upon our experiences utilising both guided and free-form writing prompts and exercises. Participants have an opportunity to reflect, explore and play often gaining new perspectives and insight into self along the way.
TESTIMONIALS
Previous participants self-report perceived improvements in creative self-expression, emotional regulation and subjective wellbeing and the development of a coping tool they can carry through life.
"Expressive Art Journalling is so amazing. I look forward to each session. The length of the workshops is perfect, I get to do a full page layout, relax, have a cuppa and pack up without having to feel rushed. There are so many topics covered in the workshops and I can use the skills I have learnt at home. Thank you so much and I look forward to joining this group again." LB
“The art journalling sessions were recommended to me by a friend and I'm so glad I decided to give them a try. There is nothing that has been as beneficial and enjoyable to me as sharing time and stories with other people, while opening up my creativity at the same time! I would highly recommend them for the relaxed friendly atmosphere Michelle creates. Even if you feel you aren't artistic she will be able to help you create wonderful art.” AE
