We are devastated by the news that the death of a young woman earlier this week is being treated as an alleged family and domestic violence homicide.

Our thoughts are with her family at this unspeakably heartbreaking time.

Violence against women and children is not inevitable. Family and domestic violence homicides are preventable.

And yet, 3 women have been killed by a man known to them in Australia just this week. One a day for 3 days in a row.

The prevalence of family and domestic violence in our community, and the horrific toll that violence takes on our families and communities can feel unbearable.

If you or someone you know needs support, or if you are distressed by this horrific news, we urge you to reach out.

Two weeks ago I was blessed and humbled to be in Sydney for a discussion with the Commissioner.

I talked about the responsibility of every leader in Australia in making sure they create a diverse and inclusive environment! If you are a leader you have to be intentional about the decisions you make and make it a priority that everyone is included!

“Last week, the Commission hosted a national roundtable focused on addressing the specific domestic, family, and sexual violence issues experienced in Australia’s diverse multicultural communities.

This crucial event brought together sector leaders, practitioners, advocates, and people with lived experience to share insights, identify priorities, and strengthen our collective response to violence to ensure better outcomes for refugee, migrant, and culturally and racially marginalised people and families.”

Today marks 100 days until our annual 16 Days in WA to Stop Violence Against Women campaign, running from 25 November to 10 December. The theme Stopping Family and Domestic Violence: Play Your Part, encourages everyone to take action to increase awareness of family and domestic violence, call out disrespectful behaviour and help stop the cycle of violence. With a focus on engaging men and boys in WA, we aim to spread the message of respect for women and the need for community-wide efforts to combat family violence.

Keep your eyes peeled as we share resources, support and information about how you can get involved and play your part. To find out more, visit https://docsm.au/4167yqv

On Sunday, I was sitting right at the back of the church literally. When my eyes caught a gorgeous lady sitting right at the front literally and for a moment I thought it can’t be her!

After church, I was embarrassed to walk right to the front and confirm it was and I thought bu**er that, and it was

My brain still can’t comprehend but it was and it has to be God (cannot take any glory in this) because how? Like how did she end up in the same church? It was her first time🙆🏾‍♀️.

My has been full of all I have to say is thank you Lord✨.

That is the advantage of being tiny literally,

“Like a blade of grass looking up at a tree,
Like a stream looking out on the ocean,
Like a light in a village hut looking up at the stars in the sky,
Because being tiny you can see what is great.”

Importance of deshaming 💚🤍

Literature and evidence shows that is not very good for us!

Sadly, for a lot of people from always presents itself through culture filled messages and people are forced to present a certain image of themselves!

Do you ever feel that people (culture) tells you how you are supposed to look? Feel? Perform? Yet your personal experiences have no hope to measure to that expectation! Because what you have been through, is not something you chose to go through!

ITS NOT YOUR FAULT ✨

This week, with heavy hearts, we have seen high levels of media coverage on family and domestic violence, first around the inquest into Lynn Cannon's murder and then the most recent crime statistics that show family and domestic violence offences at shockingly high levels.

It has been a heavy week for those working in the family and domestic violence sector, with heartbreaking reminders of the consequences for victim-survivors and their families when the system fails them.

"This is an epidemic, and it’s time we treated it as such. Because domestic violence isn’t just a crime issue, it’s a public health catastrophe. What else can you call the leading preventable contributor to death and illness for women aged 18 to 44 in Australia? The health impacts are widespread. Brain injuries. Trauma. Sexually transmitted infections. Mental health issues. Suicidality and self-harm."

We stand in solidarity with victim-survivors, adults and children, and in support of the families of loved ones who have been killed or who have taken their own lives due to the unbearable impact of family and domestic violence.

Reports of domestic violence offending in WA has reached a 10-year high, with record levels of assaults, acts of threatening behaviour, and breaches of family violence restraining orders reported last year.
