Today, the Hellenic Community Aged Care welcomed the New Year with the cherished tradition of the Cutting of the Vasilopita. 🕯️🍰

We were honoured to have His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Perth, alongside Rev Father Terry, lead the blessing, joined by our Hellenic Administration Team and Site Manager Yemi.

During the cutting, His Grace dedicated commemorative pieces to Jesus Christ, Panagia, St Basil the Great, the Ecumenical Patriarch, the Archbishop, the Poor and our home — representing both our residents and staff.

The blessed Vasilopita was then shared with all in attendance, along with warm wishes for a happy, healthy, and blessed New Year ahead. A meaningful way to begin the year, grounded in faith, tradition and community. 💙✨

The Hellenic Community Aged Care facility was full of smiles, laughter and a whole lot of fluff yesterday with a very special visit from a petting zoo. 🐥

Residents enjoyed spending time with ducks, chickens, goats (including some very cheeky baby goats!) and even a gentle pony. The joy was instant and contagious as our residents held and fed them.

Animal visits aren’t just adorable. They’re proven to boost mood, reduce stress and anxiety and encourage social interaction. Sometimes, a soft nose and a wagging tail say more than words ever could.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this experience so special. 💙

What a magical evening it was at Hellenic Community Aged Care yesterday! 🎶🎅

Residents and their families were treated to a joyful night of Christmas carols performed by the wonderful Churchlands Choral Society, filling the space with festive spirit and familiar tunes. 🎄

Santa made a special appearance, delighting the children with gifts, while our incredible staff surprised everyone with a special dance performance that brought smiles, laughter and a few happy tears.

Adding to the merriment, our kitchen team kept everyone well fed and merry, serving up crowd favourites including pizza and a classic sausage sizzle.

A beautiful evening of music, laughter and connection, reminding us that Christmas is about coming together and sharing joy ❤️

Today our staff hosted our annual Christmas Lunch for residents and their families. 🎄

The dining rooms across the facilities were filled with a wonderful festive spirit as everyone enjoyed a traditional Christmas meal including turkey, chicken, ham, roast vegetables, potatoes and a selection of desserts that were very well received.

Santa joined our staff and Hellenic Community Aged Care Chair and Board Members to visit each wing, singing carols and bringing Christmas cheer to residents throughout the home. 🎅

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff for creating such a special day for our residents and their families. Community and connection are at the heart of everything we do, especially at this time of year. ❤️

Today, residents and staff at the Hellenic Community Aged Care gathered to honour Remembrance Day this morning.

It was a time to pause, reflect, and pay tribute to those who served and sacrificed for the freedoms we hold dear.

The morning service included a moment of silence and heartfelt stories shared by residents who remember wartime not as history, but as lived experience.

Their reflections reminded us that remembrance isn’t only about the past, it’s also about carrying forward the values of courage, resilience, and peace.

“They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”

Today, 11 November, is Remembrance Day. On this day we honour all who have served and sacrificed for our freedom in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. We remember those who gave their lives in service to enable us to enjoy life today.

💙 Grandparents Day Celebration 💙
Yesterday, we celebrated the heart of our families, our grandparents with a Grandparents Day celebration! 🎉

To mark the occasion, students from St. Andrew’s Grammar joined us for an afternoon of fun, dancing and treats. The students performed traditional Greek dances to the hand-clapping, foot-tapping delight of our residents! 💃

We finished on a sweet note with ice creams and afternoon tea enjoyed together by students and residents. 🍦☕✨💙

📅 OXI Day, a day of pride, courage, and remembrance.

Yesterday, we honoured the bravery of our Greek heroes who, in 1940, stood united and said a powerful “ΟΧΙ” (No!) to fascism and oppression.

At Hellenic Community Aged Care, we reflect on the strength and resilience of our elders — some of whom carry the memories and legacy of this historic day!

In the words of Winston Churchill, “The word heroism, I am afraid does not render the least of those acts of self-sacrifice of the Greeks, which were the defining factor in the victorious outcome … during WWII, for human freedom and dignity. If it were not for the bravery of the Greeks and their courage, the outcome of WWII would be undetermined.”

Many thanks to family, friends all and our special guests who attended.

Today, we celebrate the remarkable career of Maria Papa, who is retiring after more than 21 years of dedicated service to the Hellenic Community Aged Care. 💐

Since joining our team in 2004, Maria has brought warmth, kindness, and laughter into every room she’s walked into. As our Staff Education and Professional Development Officer, she’s guided and supported generations of aged care professionals with patience, care, and her signature bright smile.

At her farewell lunch today, the staffroom was overflowing with stories, hugs, and heartfelt wishes. It was a true reflection of how loved Maria is by her colleagues, our residents and their families and the wider Hellenic Community.

It’s people like Maria who remind us what community really means: showing up with compassion, bringing positive energy wherever they go, and making every day brighter for those around them.

Thank you, Maria, for your years of dedication and care. You will be dearly missed, but your legacy will continue to inspire our Hellenic Community for years to come. 💛

Nothing beats a bit of sunshine, slow tunes and the smell of a good old-fashioned BBQ in the air! 🎶🌭

Our residents soaked up the sunshine in the Gardens today while enjoying a sausage sizzle right in the quadrangle with a side of coleslaw and fries. lovingly prepared by our amazing staff.

The music was playing, the conversation was flowing, and there were smiles all around! It’s these simple, joy-filled moments that mean the most. 💛

A huge thank you to our wonderful team who go above and beyond to make sure our residents are happy, connected and well cared for every day.🌿✨
