Kidney Action Week 1st - 7th July

With over 2.7million people in Australia living with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) now is the time to check the health of your kidneys.

Did you know you can lose 90% of your kidney function without symptoms? CKD is often called a 'silent disease' because most people only feel sick when their kidneys have nearly stopped working.

💧 June 23rd is National Hydration Day! 💧

Did you know your body is made up of over 60% water? Staying hydrated is essential for your energy, focus, and overall health.

Don't wait until you're thirsty — make a habit of drinking water regularly throughout the day.

🚫 Be mindful of sugary drinks! They can actually dehydrate you by drawing water out of your cells, making you thirstier and leading to more frequent bathroom trips.

Choose water. Stay refreshed. 💙

🛡️ Don't Let Them Go Unprotected: RSV Awareness 2025

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a seasonal virus that can cause severe illness in infants, including bronchiolitis and pneumonia. In Australia, RSV is the leading cause of infant hospitalisation, and notably, 4 out of 5 children hospitalised with RSV have no underlying health conditions.

This year's awareness campaign, Don't Let Them Go Unprotected, highlights the importance of safeguarding our youngest and most vulnerable.

Who is eligible for the RSV vaccine in 2025?
In Western Australia, the RSV immunisation program offers free protection to:
• Infants born between 1 October 2024 and 30
September 2025, whose mothers did not receive the Abrysvo vaccine during pregnancy or received it less than two weeks before delivery.
• Aboriginal infants and children born between 1 October 2023 and 30 September 2025.
• Infants with specific high-risk medical conditions born between 1 October 2023 and 30 September 2025.

Why is the RSV vaccine important?
Vaccination with Nirsevimab (brand name Beyfortus®) provides infants and young children protection against severe RSV disease for at least 5 months from administration.

How can you protect your child?
If your child is eligible, schedule an appointment today to discuss the RSV vaccine. Contact Forrest Road Medical Centre at 9402 1922 or visit www.forrestroadmedical.com.au for more information.

Don't wait—ensure your child is protected against RSV this winter.

🚨 Measles is on the rise – don’t travel unprotected.

Measles is a highly contagious virus that spreads easily through coughing and sneezing. Just being in the same room as someone infected can be enough to catch it — and it can cause serious complications, especially in young children and people with weak immune systems.

🛡️ The MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) is the best protection.
✅ You need two doses for full immunity.

✈️ Planning to travel?
Make sure: ✔️ You and your family are fully vaccinated.
✔️ Children aged 6–12 months travelling to areas with outbreaks can now get an early MMR dose — speak to your GP or travel health clinic.

👶 Babies, teens, and adults alike need protection — check your records or ask your GP.

Let’s stop measles from spreading.
💉 Vaccinate before you go.
