Dream Flutes are what is called a 'two chambered duct flute'. (Unique geographically to North America)
A two-chambered duct flute has a slow air chamber at the top of the flute into which air is blown. Then, in-between the two chambers there is an air channel, covered by a bird/fetish, which air is directed
down into the bore of the flute. A solid area separates these two chambers. Originally the flute only had five holes, but the modern Native American Flute can also have six holes. Dream Flutes are made both with five and six holes. Five holes follow the minor pentatonic scale - which is the traditional scale for the Natives Americans. Six hole flutes, allows you to play all the notes in a minor scale. This gives you the opportunity to also
play western music. All Dream Flutes are tuned to concert 440 Hz. The flutes were originally very personal; its music was played without accompaniment in courtship, healing,
meditation and spiritual rituals. Now it is played solo, along with other instruments or vocals, or with backing
tracks both in Native American music and in other styles. Dream Flutes comes in a range from low Eb minor to high C minor. Low ranged flutes (F-Eb) are around 70 cm long and have a beautiful deep, rich tone. Middle range flutes(G-F) are around 60 cm and high ranged flutes(C-A) are ca 50 cm long. All the flutes are handmade by Therése Löwdin.
