Different countries. Same nervous system.
We carry culture and our younger selves with us.
And sometimes, healing is simply learning how to feel safe again — from the inside out.

Thank you Claire Kullack and Dr Jon Laugharne for welcoming me into psychedelic-assisted therapy training in May 2025. At the time, I couldn’t have known how deeply that invitation would shape the work that unfolded afterward. Since then, I’ve been grateful to walk alongside remarkable team at Empax, witnessing change through psychedelic-assisted therapy that feels both tender and profound, and learning with each step I take. Since November 2025, I’ve been grateful by the growth that has come through Holotropic Breathwork facilitator training with Nigel Denning — another gentle unfolding.

So much reverence for these spaces, these practices, and the people who hold them with such care. Thankful to be learning, listening, and walking this path together.

My Halloween outfit makes me think of the psychodynamic theme of defended affect and the mismatch between surface and depth.

What ways can we gently hold space or show someone care when we know they are not fine and perhaps not ready or don't know how to go there...

"You don’t let go of the axe... the axe lets go of you.”
Psychodynamic and EMDR therapy: you don’t force it. You feel it. You heal it.

I feel grateful to learn from colleagues in different supervision groups that continue to nourish my growth and remind me of the value of shared reflection.

My wonderful team in West Perth — a group I’m proud to work alongside. Today, Patrick O'Connor led a compelling discussion about AI and therapy. The input from Daniel Lazaroo, Dawson Cooke and Katie Newton were invaluable.

At the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, where I supervise trainees, we explored themes of psychological manipulation through the 1944 film, "Gaslight" — such thoughtful discussions led by Dr Jan Resnick.

Each space brings its own kind of richness, and I’m thankful for the generosity and depth my colleagues bring to the table.

What kinds of learning spaces are feeding you lately?

Wondering what type of therapy suits you? Think of it like an ocean adventure:

A Surfer stays on the surface, focusing on the present with techniques like CBT. A Snorkeler dives deeper, exploring the subconscious and past patterns with tools like EMDR. The Deep Sea Diver goes into the unconscious, uncovering hidden emotions and attachments, where psychodynamic therapy can guide deep healing. No matter where you’re at, the right therapy helps you explore, heal, and grow.

So exciting to meet you in person in Melbourne, Caroline Burrows! I am grateful for the thoughtful treat at a lovely vegetarian spot nearby my hotel and for the years of generous online EMDR consultation - I've appreciated the growth from our work together. I truly enjoyed our conversation and reflecting on my EMDR journey since training with Dr Chris Lee and Graham Taylor back in around 2007/2008 then the supervision with both. It's incredible to see how far the field has come! I'm endlessly grateful to learn from each supervisor, supervisee, client/patient and colleague alike.

True connections are where our most authentic selves shine. In a safe, supportive space, we're free to express, create, and heal. These genuine relationships help us grow, unleashing our creativity and the power of being truly seen and understood.
