In the Yoruba worldview, every human being is born with a direct connection to Olódùmarè, the Supreme Creator. This connection is called Ori. It is not only the physical head, but the spiritual essence that lives within each person—the divine spark that accompanies us from before birth and throughout our entire life.
Before coming into the world, the soul chooses its Ori. With it, one chooses destiny, experiences, lessons, and the paths that will allow spiritual evolution. For this reason, destiny is not seen as punishment or reward, but as a sacred agreement between the soul and Olódùmarè.
Ori is the most important guide of the human being. It stands above everything, even above the Òrìṣà, because without the acceptance of Ori, nothing can fully manifest in a person’s life. The Òrìṣà accompany, protect, and assist, but it is Ori who decides whether those blessings will take root and flourish.
When a person lives in alignment with their Ori, life flows with greater clarity. Decisions become more conscious, paths open with less resistance, and purpose begins to reveal itself. Listening to Ori is listening to the inner voice, deep intuition, and the wisdom that Olódùmarè placed within every human being.
Caring for Ori is an act of respect toward oneself and toward God. It is strengthened through good character, honesty, self-knowledge, reflection, and coherence between thought, feeling, and action. A well-attended Ori guides one toward balance, peace, and the fulfillment of the chosen destiny.
To honor Ori is to honor Olódùmarè within ourselves. Because when Ori is in harmony, the human being walks with purpose, awareness, and divine connection.
