We have a boxing day family tradition.
It started out of necessity and exhaustion. Years ago, I was struggling with PEM (post-exertional malaise) after Christmas and needed to rest all day. So, we made boxing day a day of rest and doing whatever you like.
We sloth around in bed, watch TV, sleep if we need, and eat whatever is easy to get (mostly leftovers). The joyous thing is that my kids think it is the best. They eat more lollies than they should, have new toys from Christmas to play with, and enjoy family relaxing time. If anyone tries to plan an activity or get together on boxing day, they are the first to say we can't do anything because it's boxing day. My guilt from needing to rest after Christmas is gone and replaced with a day the whole family look forward to.
May you be able to find traditions that are chronic illness sensitive and inclusive.
Picture is of my cat showing how relaxing is done😅
